Do most of you guys run those or AR15’s? Just curious.
Thx

exclusively yes.
I have one older Colt lower that has a sear block so I am forced to use the AR-15 BCG for that lower. The others I have all sport M-16 BCG’s.
yeeeeaaaap. dont think i’ve ever not used a standard BCG.
i emphasize the “standard” because calling them “m16” implies that they’re for m16s specifically. they’re not. that was the carrier the weapon was designed to use, and the AR15 was created as nothin more than a sellout maneuver by Colt to prevent liability and make sure the peasants never try to use their commercial uppers on full-auto lowers.
the AR15 BCG does absolutely nothing specific to the AR15 except prevent an upper from being used on a full-auto lower. so it’s basically just a restrictor. restrictors are gay in racing, and they’re gay on guns. aside from that, the AR15 carrier is lighter, which speeds the weapon’s timing. we’re generally trying to slow them down, so this is counter-productive.
thats my take.
I have the BCM M16 BCG on mine and have had no issues thus far.
All things being equal, I figure the extra weight increases reliability. I don’t see myself running a semi carrier in any rifle I own or build unless I build a plinker in which case battle-readiness and absolute reliability (two attributes I’m sure I’ll never have to invoke) become secondary to the cost/benefit ratio. One may argue that you should always build/own the best AR you can for the money, and to be honest I bought an LMT for my first AR and then built one with quality components and a price tag to match, but I think different rifles for different needs. I’m debating a semi carrier for the 20" build I’m currently accumulating parts for.
Well said BKB.
I also follow what Iraqgunz has to say on the subject:
“Semi-auto carriers are an obscene left over from days gone by. They should all be shipped to people in ban states or melted down for making new auto carriers.”
And
“A firearm should be considered a fighting weapon first. Any other use should be considered a bonus.”
So yeah I go out of my way to use at least the correct and to spec BCG in every AR I own to include the 20" varmint guns. That way it helps with my logistics and the dependable reliability of my weapon to the best of my ability.
