I know nobody really likes the M12 holster, but I was looking at picking one up real cheap and using it in instances where I’d like to keep the pistol somewhat covered (woods bumming and farm work). I just wanted to know if they do a very good job at retaining guns other than the M9. Would the M12 retain a glock 17 or an M&P9 very well? Thanks
I have a M-12 holster that I have used for HK-USP’s and a Glock G20. I attach it to the outside of a small ruck. It does what I intend it to.
M12 with death flap fits, retains, and protects the G17. Getting a proper firing grip is a challenge for most, and it is a slow draw. The holster is bulky and not size efficient. It does not conceal well, if it all.
Your G17 does not require that level of protection to perform. Others might benefit from it.
It’s a good holster for folks that need to carry guns but not use them, for supply folks that may need to stock a single holster to do several things, and for armorers or inspectors who hate see dings, scratches, and dirt on the guns.

Yes, it will fit both the G17 and the M&P. I’d recommend you use some type of lanyard with it as extra insurance, especially if you plan on carrying in a woodland environment.
I have one that I keep on my old ALICE setup. It’s not great, but it’s one of the few holsters that comes with a protective flap to keep out leaves, twigs, and other debris. I occasionally use it when going hunting.
