173gr. Special Ball is mighty tough to locate. You might try taking a look at Black Hills 175gr. Match.

I thought the real thing camein a brown paper/cardboard box with black lettering? Not the one in the ad.

All of the LR M118 ammo that I have seen is in paperboard boxes with black lettering. With CTD you never really know.

I’ve had good luck with the American Eagle brand ammo, along with wolf 308. The South african surplus is pretty good too if you can find it

Please note that even the bottom of the CTD ad states this is “XM118LR” not true M118LR. In addition, M118LR accuracy is not all that great these days, that is why Crane had to come out with Mk316 Mod0. You would likely be better off just getting some BH or Fed Gold Match 175 gr SMK’s.

Ah, I didnt see the xm designation. So these are basically federal factory seconds (aka practice, much like the xm193 you can buy I am guessing? Or is the the pd marked stuff only factory seconds?

While we are on the topic, would someone please enlighten me to the differences between the M118 and M118LR? I have recently shot the M118LR, but have only seen the the M118 (w/o LR on the box) for sale.

I believe that the Long Range M118 round is 175gr. with a Sierra Match King bullet, as opposed to to the M118 which is 173gr. and I believe that it’s not open tip. I am sure that DocGKR can clarify that.

i have some XM118 lake city and some XM118LR PD, the XM118LR PD is mixed years on the brass, loaded from excess brass but it is loaded at the same time and is consistant, but doesn’t shoot any different for me as the regular XM118, BUT…i suck and only have a 200yd range…and i can’t shoot worth a crap, but i have it!
