I’m new to the 308 AR world and need some advice. I’m starting an m110k1 build and I’m looking for any barrel suggestions you guys might have. I haven’t been able to find many 16’ barrels with a rifle gas system, I don’t really want to buy a blank I’d rather get a barrel that has been rifled and has the gas port and would only require minimal fitting. Any suggestions?
Buy a 20" rifle length gas and have it cut down to 16" and don’t mess with the gas port until you shoot it.
Krieger Barrels - $405 for an M-110 Service Rifle
These barrels are unchambered and not crowned for that cost.
Stainless Steel
.30 caliber, 4 groove (.300" bore, .308" groove)
Precision ground for a .875" diameter gas block/front sight
.850" Muzzle diameter
Weight: 4#
Machined to A.M.U. contour to be service rifle legal
20" finish length only
1-10, 1-11, 1-12 twist rates
It’ll cost you another C note for chambering & crowning.
I’m sure you could request it to be cut down to 16" as well.
The k1 version has a 16" barrel with chrome lining, 1:11 5R rifling but I’m not sure about the profile and I doubt you could have it directly sourced from the provider since I have a feeling that many aspects of it are considered proprietary by KAC and aren’t available for custom ordering.
I’d just look at buying a KAC SR25 ECC since that is a fairly close match from what I have read. No it won’t be cheap but it will work well.
The SR25 ECC would have been a great option but I’m in one of the communist states and was lucky enough to get a stripped preban SR25 upper and lower so I’m gonna build with what I got
Not sure what to do then since I’d assume that you can’t just legally buy a new SR25 upper. The best thing to do would probably be to follow the advice to have a 20" cut down to 16". Good luck, what state is it anyways?
Big difference between the M110 and the M110K1 barrels. I would look for a 20" 1/11 chrome lined barrel and send it off to Melvin Purvis to have it cut down, threaded and dimpled. I would also contact Boltcarrier about assembly of the upper, in fact I would ask him about a barrel, rail, muzzle device etc.
You aren’t going to be able to replicate it.
It is not the M110 barrel (and even that will be very difficult to actually replicate).
You might be able to get something visually similar by going with a readily sourced 16" .308 barrel.
CMMG has a 16" with rifle length gas port any thoughts on it?
Isn’t there a concern with the short dwell time of the Rifle length gas system on a 16" barrel?
