Here’s my latest precision semi-auto. Video here.
Very nice!!! Looking forward to seeing you shoot it.![]()
That’s a excellant looking rifle! If I’m not mistaken, 5.8 mil serial number is a late production Garand, probably late fifty’s. I have one is simular shape, The park was perfect, barrel damn near new, was built in Feb,'45, but was in a shitty stock. I restocked it with a pre-fit stock fron DGR, and finished it myself using linseed oil and steel wool, It turned out beautiful. The stock you have could use a few coats of Linseed oil, it’ll look great when you’re done, should be a excellant shooter. Did the CMP tell you what the TE and MW was on the barrel? Seeing how there is very little wear on the op-rod track on the receiver,I’d say that it was shot very little, and probably spent most of it’s life sitting on a rack somewhere. You did very well.
To anybody who wants a Garand from the CMP…
Get’em while they’re hot, folks, The CMP dosen’t have an endless supply of these!! I’ve been seeing people selling rack grades at gun shows for the last couple of years, and asking $1000 apeice, and getting it from dopes who don’t know better.
Thanks for your comment, appreciate it.
Sorry I put this post in the wrong place the first time around.
I was able to get my M1 Garand CMP Collector Grade outside into much better light the other day…
I just ordered a service grade M1 Garand from CMP to add to the collection.
I agree, get 'me while ya can. I drove to the CMP north store several years ago and bought my own collectors grade. It’s still my pride and joy. However I didn’t bring home the 03A3 I had in my hand and now they are thought to come by. I kick myself to this day about that. They staff at the store is a great bunch of guys too.
The next time I go to Benning I may just have to go for a drive up and over to Anniston one weekend.
I was lucky…I was working in the Toledo area when all those '03’s, '03A3’s from Greece showed up…It took me over a hour to get down to decide between two. Both Remingtons,Both '03’s one with it’s orginial park, stock was pretty good barrel, excellent, The other in a brand new stock set, also excellant, however it also had the ugly black Greek park on it,I took the one with the orginial finish, Made in 1942, it’s a very accurate rifle. I went back a few weeks later, looking for a '03A3 by this time the selection of rifles to choose from was getting thin (2-3 racks) looking through, I found a really nice '03A3 (Rem, 1943) All it needed was a good cleaning up. I could’nt get it to the counter fast enough. The '03A3 replaces a Smith-Corona 'A3 I foolishly sold, I’ve always regretted selling that rifle…
