I just got my Phantom in the mail yesterday and love it so far, but have a small issue. When I initially put it on my M&P would cause the holster to sag outwards, basically pointing the grip out as far as possible and causing the bottom of the holster to point inwards towards my thigh. I tried changing position of the holster on my hip between 2:00-5:00 but that didn’t help. I’ve tried it with several belts I have from 5.11, starting with a 1.5" instructor belt to a regular 1.5" leather belt.
Other than the pistol/holster combo’s center of gravity I can’t think of anything else that might be causing it. Do you guys have a solution to this issue?
Eventually I’m going to get soft loops to wear it IWB but for now I had planned on using it for CCW demos in classes as an OWB.
Put the belt loops higher. You’ve correctly identified the problem as a CoG/CoM issue where the weighted magazine is causing the grip to rotate away from your body.
By putting the belt loops higher, you’ve got more holster pushing into your body to oppose the weighted grip’s tendency to rotate away.
I wear an MP9c with a Raven Phantom owb as my concealed carry and can suggest a couple of options that might help.
First, while your belts may be adequate for iwb carry they may not be rigid enough for a high-ride holster, like the Raven, worn owb…but that’s an assessment you’ll have to make. I use an Aker gun belt with an insert which helps keep the grip from pitching out.
Second, I’d recommend Raven’s owb pancake wings which helps to pull the gun in even closer. I use them with my holster and don’t wear my gun iwb anymore.
I’ll have to wait until next month but this sounds like the best solution. I’m also looking at an Aker but that will need to wait until next month as well. I’ll update this thread when I have results.
