I guess it’s not totally a custom build since I started with a complete rifle, but we’ll call it semi-custom ![]()
I got fascinated with the MOE Mid rifle when I saw videos of it at SHOT show. Finally got to fondle one not too long ago and figured I’d give it a shot. I thought the barrel and lower receiver were interesting, and they have not disappointed. Right out of the box, the rifle was comfortable, more than combat accurate, and honestly had a pretty good factory trigger. Then I started effing with it ![]()
Here’s the list:
-Vortex flash hider (I liked the new S&W model, but I’ve got a thing for the Vortex)
-Geissele SSA
-Spike’s ST-T2 buffer
-BCM Gunfighter Mod4
-Troy rear sight
-Magpul ASAP sling mount (for my MS2 sling)
-CTR stock
-Hogue pistol grip
Last thing I’ve got is an Aimpoint PRO on the way from OpticsPlanet.
Intended purpose of the rifle is for 3 Gun and plinking, and it potentially has a future as a patrol carbine. I’ve put about 300 rounds of PMC 55 grain .223 and 80 rounds of PMC 62 grain 5.56 since changing everything, and I think I’ve got my new favorite rifle on my hands. It shoots like butter, is extremely light in the front end, groups well (shooting off-hand, I haven’t benched it), and the Geissele trigger is excellent as always. The MOE Mid is an excellent base gun to work with if you don’t want to start totally from scratch. Upper and lower fit is flawless, not even a smidge of wobble. The rifle came new from Bud’s Police Supply for $879 (it’s regularly $1002 on the main site).
Anyway, that’s my newest “custom” build, plus a little review on the MOE Mid model for anyone interested. I’ll post pictures once I can take 'em.
