Has anyone had any extraction issues with a M&P 9mm while using aluminum case Blazer 124gr? I had several “Stuck” rounds where I had to grab the slide and hit the frame to get the round out of the chamber. Very light primer strikes on these rounds. Tap Rack would not fix as I could not rack with out Banging the frame.
I put these rounds in a Glock 17 and they worked…
This was only 5 or 6 rounds out of 100 that functioned without issue.
The gun ran FINE om 124 gr +p Golden Saber, and Winchester white box with brass casing.
Thanks,
Jack
I’ve never shot 124gr Blazer through either of my M&Ps. I’ve shot over 30,000 rounds of 115gr Blazer (Al) through them combined, though.
Are they CleanFire Blazer, by chance?
You might just have a little too rough a finish in your chamber. Smith Melonite’s the inside of the barrel, including the chamber, and sometimes they don’t polish it quite well enough afterwards. The result can be stuck cases.
Todd,
124 gr TMJ CF
Total Metal Jacket Clean Fire. We use a TON of this at work and occasionally we will get hard primers, but for the most part this stuff works! And since it is a .gov job it has to be cheap…
So I need to correct my previous post. I have shot 124gr Blazer (and it was Cleanfire) through my first M&P. I went back through records to check. Shot 292 rounds of it, had multiple light strikes. However, the ammo had been stored in the cold for four years and I attributed the problems to that. Most lead-free primers have a relatively short shelf life and cold in particular can make them “hard.”
If the same boxes/cases of ammo were working in other guns (especially other SFA guns like a Glock), and assuming there has been no action work performed on your M&P, try cleaning out the striker channel (and make sure you don’t put any solvent or lubricant in the channel … not now, not ever). If it still gives lph’s at a noticeably higher rate than the same lot number is having in your Glocks, the gun might need a trip to Springfield for some attention by the mothership crew.
