M&P 15 VTAC JP Enterprise FF Tube

I’m in the process of replacing the FF hand guard with the Troy VTAC guard on my M&P 15 and it seems that the JP Enterprise guard where it attaches to the hand guard to the upper is Red Locktite in place.

How could I go about taking it off?

I was told to let it soak in some acetone for a few hours but I’m not sure I want to do that and run the risk of ruining the finish on the AR.

Thanks for the help.

JP recommends using heat to break down the loctite. I would think removing the barrel and heating from the inside of the receiver rather than the thicker outer portion will require less heat and will come off quicker.

Thanks for the help. I looked on their site and I couldn’t find anything on how to remove their guards. I’ll give that a try.

The only tool that I have that is big enough to remove it with is a Craftsman strap wrench. Do you think that would be good or should I use something else?

Use of heat is what is recommended with their installation instructions. As you are removing the nut and if you do not want it I would place that in a vise and apply steady even pressure with your strap wrench on the receiver.

Well I tried the heat method but it didn’t work with the lower and upper in a mag block. I let it heat up to the point where I could see some bubbling but I guess it might have been some oil in there.

Let ask this dumb question. Is it still lefty loosy, righty tighty when it comes to removing the nut?

Thanks again for the help

I finally found the instructions that’s you were talking about. Thanks for pointing in the right direction

Well I finally got the JP hand guard nut off. I was at the point where if I didn’t get it off I was going to leave as it was and hold onto the parts for another build down the road.

I’ll tell you it was a huge pain in the ass to get it off and I was worried about ruining the finish or warping the the upper from the heat. Now I just have to goto the range and run some ammo through it for functionality and I should be GTG. Still want to change out the stock but thats good for now. Here’s a before and after. Thanks

Glad to see that it finally worked out.

After two months of waiting I finally received the buttstock that I needed to make it FDE.
