LWRC Six8 Rifle Family

Did a checkup on their website and realized they’ve made a few updates. Three new rifles caught my eye because both the upper and lower have been re-engineered specifically for the 6.8x43mm. Magpul even made a 30-round 6.8 magazine for the rifle. They’re all ambidextrous.

Would anyone consider buying one if they had the funds? I know there’s a lot of anti-LWRC sentiment here, but these look like winners to me (especially the SBR).

I don’t think you are going to find a lot of love here for LWRC. The debacle with the IC program just adds fuel to the fire.

As for the rifles, I personally don’t think I want a piston unless I’m: suppressed, spraying, Short barreled.

Also, this thread belongs in “beyond 5.55/.223”

I run a 6.8 suppressed SBR from LWRCi (just the upper) and love it. No issues whatsoever on my end.

That’s awesome, I’m sure you’re still hitting pretty damn hard with a short barrel

The sentiment is not unfounded.

Personally I would not. A) its a 6.8 and B) if I had that much cash to drop on a fancy AR it would be a Christensen Arms with a carbon fiber wrapped barrel.

Yeah, but I dig it. Once I get it back from Cerakoting (FDE) I’ll post a pic here for you.

Thanks, I’m really falling in love with that UCIW. One always yearns for what’s out of one’s grasp

I’m curious:

Are you saying you’d rather have a sub-standard, overpriced, piston-operated gun than an LWRCi because the LWRCi is so poor or because you haven’t actually seen or handled one of the Christensens?

No I say that having shot both, I would prefer the CA for a botique AR. They also make gas impingement rifles and are not as sub-standard or overpriced as the LWRC.

LWRCi has had its ups and downs. But I have to give credit where credit is due. The new LWRCi Six8 UCIW is one of the most interesting and well done rifles produced in the past two decades, as it was built as a complete system including rifle, ammunition, and magazines all fine-tuned to work in harmony and maximize overall effectiveness.

Doc, it’s designed around the 6.8 GDs? Or do you mean the 6.8 as a whole.

From the link: “Until now, a major drawback of using the 6.8 cartridge in an M4 style weapon has been the lack of reliable magazines. So, when we designed the SIX8™ family of weapons, we started with the magazine. Partnering with Magpul®, the leader in polymer magazine engineering, we designed the first polymer 6.8 magazine. Building upon the magazine, we designed the SIX8™ platform for maximum reliability and improved ergonomics. The upper and lower receivers are designed to accommodate the slightly larger polymer magazine and to perfect the feed geometry for the 6.8 cartridge. In addition, we have prompted Federal Ammunition to develop new lines of affordably priced, high performance 6.8 ammunition for commercial, law enforcement and military applications.”

Fair enough.

I’ll take the gun with a 5.56mm chamber, a 1/7" twist, staked castle nut, &c. over the “check-list of cool things to do to an AR (with a 1/9” twist, 223 Remington chamber, no staking on the castle nut, &c.)" gun.

Rifle, mag, and load were all designed to function together–amazing what American small arms vendors can accomplish when given adequate funding and a lack of Big Army bureaucratic meddling and inefficiency…

I’ll jump all over one, once the qualified reviews supports the action.

I’l keep my Noveske Rogue hunter for hunting, but this package is just too tempting.

I wonder what the chance is of a Can designed for this package in a SBR ?

I’ve seen a lot of videos where they’ve suppressed it but nothing’s official. Apparently they’ve been working hard with it but haven’t found anything that’s able to handle the pressures.

From staff on their forum: "Just an FYI, we are having lots of problems suppressing the new ATK 6.8 out of 8.5 and 10.5 barrels. Not because the guns wont function they do. The AAC cans 7.62 SDN’s are breaking in as little as 100 rounds, and go high order in as little as 300 rounds. It appears as though the blast baffle is not thick enough, nor the weld strong enough to cope with the blast (muzzle pressure) from the round.

We have ruined 4 cans in a week. I don’t know about surefire or anything else."

What “debacle”? LWRC did not participate in the IC “competition”.

M6IC (individual carbine)

By program I mean their system of preordering and delivering this vaporware.

If I had the money feed it to my heart’s content, I’d have one. Like the 6.8!

WTF are you smoking?
