FYI…Over on the LWRC forums…under the “LWRC Products” banner…it’s been announced that…
They are going to build approximately 100 5.45x39 piston uppers in their M6A2 configuration. Right now it appears they will be 14.7" with permanently attached flash hider. $1000 per upper has been quoted…but it doesn’t seem everything is firmed up yet.
They are putting names on a list…first come …first served sort of deal.

I was interested until I saw they’re $1000 each! The whole reason why I want a 5.45 upper is so I can shoot, practice and train for cheap. If the upper is going to be almost three times the price of the 5.45 S&W then it’s going to take me a whole lot longer to break even and get ahead.
Dump your S&W upper? Having 2 is 1, having 1 is none.
Seriously - this is a good deal. I have questioned about adding Ares or one of the other aftermarket piston retrofit kits - seems like this could work. Just dunk the entire sucker is hot soapy water after firing corrosive ammo.
I paid $425 NIB from my local dealer last friday.
Gonna put it on a Stag lower. (picked it up Fri.)
I come with the M&P15R manual, 1 mag and orange spring.
I haven’t seen them on the net for <650.

I’ve not had any problems getting the 5.45 ammo.
Just received 2160 rd crate Tues. Cost 277 to the door.
Picked up a bunch of 30 rd bags at the Gunshow in B’ham on Sat for 5.00 each.
They had 1080 rd tins there for 162.
Simple hosedown and a few shots of wd-40 and corrosion isn’t an issue.
I’m new to the forum but not to firearms.
I’ve never had problems with corrosion and commie ammo.
I know a couple of guys with the S& M&P15R complete rifle that have been shooting the crap out of theirs with no corrosion problems. They aren’t as thourough as I am about cleaning either.

Just completely forget about 5.45x39 existing. Not worth the effort.
I have been following that also… Just not sure I want to add another caliber to the AR closet… 5.56 and 6.8 are enough for now, plus with the .308’s coming… nah
Northwest Tactical is handling the sales of these uppers for LWRC. Got an e mail this morning to send in a $100 deposit to hold an upper. I was one of the folks over on the LWRC site that signed up for one @ $999 a few months back.
Two piece bolt carrier, the old style handguards without sling attachment, no sights. They are apparently using up old parts…smart way to move the rest of their two piece bolts, etc.
I have really enjoyed both my pair of AK74’s and my S&W 5.45 upper. Reasonably accurate, near zero recoil, certainly cheap to feed.
I think these pistons uppers should be interesting to play with.
