US rifles to be produced in Jordan

LWRC International has come to an agreement with KADDB whereby some of the latest weapons designed by the US company will be licence-produced in Jordan. This follows the selection of the Personal Security Detail (PSD) weapon to equip royal protection units with a weapon that is, unusually, of 6.8mm calibre.

The PSD is said to offer incredible firepower in a small package. Weighing just over 6lb and with an 8in-long barrel, the PSD can deal with threats out to 300m and is one of the LWRC designs that will soon be produced by KADDB.

The PSD rifle combines sub-machine gun size with a battle rifle cartridge of great power. But in addition to this highly effective weapon, KADDB will also produce a longer barrel version and in due course, others in the LWRC range. These may well include the Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle (REPR, pictured), designed to put devastating 7.72 NATO rounds on target in a variety of roles.

The REPR allows marksmen to perform assault tasks with the 12in barrelled upper installed and quickly change to a sniper role by changing to the 20in barrelled upper. The rifle utilises a patented self-regulating, short stroke gas-piston operating system, which ensures a high degree of reliability in the harshest conditions.

Sure…but why does an American company license a product to be made in another country when they could stay in house, HIRE AMERICANS to build them here, and then sell the guns to whoever abroad wants them. Last time i checked Colt, LMT and KAC were not in business of licensing M4s and Mk 11s to be made in Jordan. Maybe a little Canadian colt but hell, they speak our language and we are neighbors.

eta…LMT is making the Brits new mws using American labor and skills, and then sending them to the Brits.

Maybe the PSD contract with Jordan came with an offset requirement for local manufacture. It’s not uncommon for this to happen.

The USA mandates the same thing. M9 for example.

Well not in this case if we are still all reading the same article…excerpt from above article at the beginning…“the US company will be licence-produced in Jordan.” Now that is worded a little funny but from my interpretation it means they will be build in Jordan.

Foreign sales are a nightmare. I can’t imagine what LWRC went through with State Department to license that deal.

Exactly, “local” in this case being Jordan. For the US, the requirement is for a foreign company (like Beretta) to mfg in the US. Many times, the value of the offsets will exceed the paper value of the contract.

If the quality and design of the weapon do not suffer, then equip our Jordanian allies with great weapons.

No American labor goes into them that way…so that fails miserably, but that is just my opinion:)

Jordan as a country or really the King of Jordan might like America and views America as allies, however a bunch of hero’s from the CIA recently lost their lives at the hands of one of Jordan’s stellar citizens, and its well documented the amt. of foreign fighters in A-stan and Iraq that derive form Jordan.

But hey, they let us fly sorties off their runways…hooray, Jordan:D

Better they get a license which puts money into a US companies hands than do the same thing with a European company or Russian.

A bunch of the 9/11 hijackers were from the KSA…doesn’t mean we are going to carpet bomb Mecca, and not buy oil from them.

The world is a complex place, and not so black/white. :cool:

King Abdullah bought a firearm from me personally many years ago. IIRC, a SIG P228 w/ WILCOX Nightstalker laser/IR etc.

Deal was GTG. That is not to say other’s experiences w/ Jordan have or have not gone well.

They do this to get the sale. This is common for international sales especially in the Middle East where they want you to invest in local industry to get their money.

Shareholder value, private ownership profits, whatever… Businesses do what they got to do to get the sale.

This could also be used as a stepping stone to sales to other Arab countries, though they may need to expand the line. The PSD is a niche carbine that does a good job.

For those of us working in the ME, it means a possible source of 6.8 ammo and weapons.

Jordan has been a good ally to us.

BTW. one of the first, if not the first sniper kills in the WOT happened in Jordan. Two Bad Guys taken out with one round of 300 WM, aided by a NighForce scope. The trigger puller was part of a team conducting training with the Jordanian SF.

Very interesting. Every time I was in Amman I saw Jordanian soldiers armed with a medley of small arms, from Beretta AR70/90’s, M-4’s, etc. The most prominent crew served I saw were M-60s on Hummers.

I wonder if the Jordanians will be manufacturing their own 6.8mm ammunition?

Getting cheaper surplus ammo in 6.8 would make my decision to make a 6.8 SBR would be easy.
