Anyone notice that the lumen rating and batt life on the Surefire M600C is different?
From some notes I took a couple of months ago, the M600C was rated at 120 lumens with a 3 hour life. Now they are rated for 200 lumens with a 2 hour life.
Are the heads actually different? Or is Surefire revising the ratings to reflect reality?
If they are different, how do I know if I am getting a 120 lumen head or a 200 lumen head?
The runtime has always been advertised as 2 hours, unless I totally missed something.
Taking a look at the specs from the 120 lumen version still being offered by vendors (TAD gear’s the first one I checked), they advertise runtime as 2 hours.
Any reputable SF dealer should be able to tell you which version you’re buying. If you’re buying from a B&M store, the output and runtime are displayed on the packaging.
We can make educated guesses, but I don’t think anyone knows for absolute certain at this point.
Personally, I would feel just fine buying any SF light with the older rating, as I don’t feel the increased ratings are reflecting an actual increase in output (at least, not a 50% increase), for a variety of reasons.
I spoke to a well know flashlight dealer (can pm you info since he’s not a dealer here) and I asked him about it. I purchased my KX2C (120 lumen)head to build my M600C awhile back from him and at Shot Show, the Surefire rep said that the M600C is increasing to 200 lumens. Well I called my dealer Monday and he said that the lumens have increased and the throw is now about 140yds instead of the 80yds I’ve been getting (looking through my ACOG). So I purchased one and it should be here tomorrow. I’ll see if I can get out and take a few pics.
I know my LX2 has been great and very bright so I’m going to compare it to that too.
I have the 120 lumen e2d and the 200 lumen surefire/vtac light. I see no difference. Not even at distance. The 200 lumen change for the KX2C head occurred at the end of last year.
Interesting. My LX2 is definitely brighter than my M600C. I hope I’m not disappointed with the new KX2C head.
Just got an email newsletter from Surefire. It states that the X300 and X400 have been upgraded to 170 lumens and the M600C have been upgraded to 200.
Guess I’ll go throw my piddly 110 lumen X300s in the trash.
