Lubbock SO Deputy killed

Cpl D. Harvey, better known as “Bones” to us on shift, was killed in a two car vehicle crash last night. He was responding to a fight-in-progress call shortly after midnight. Some details are unknown at this time, but it was a head on collision. His vehicle caught fire immediately after the crash and was fully engulfed within seconds.

Bones was a good man who served for the Sheriff’s Office for many years on patrol as well as our Tactical Operations Unit. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons.

The two occupants of the other vehicle were transported to UMC Hospital but I do not know their condition.

I will update this thread as I can. We need prayers for his family and all of us who responded as well as the entire department.

My deepest condolences to His widow, sons and you his fellow deputies.

May God give you His strength and comfort in this hour of tragedy.

Sorry for your loss :(.

We lost someone this past week as well. 30 years old with a few trips to Iraq as a Marine MP. Got out, went through our academy. Was all of 4 weeks out of the academy training on our shift when we got the call that he and his girlfriend had gotten in an argument while he was off duty. Girlfriend advised him that she was not only leaving him but was already dating someone else. He went to the bedroom and took his own life with a personally owned firearm. Hit my shift pretty hard

Funeral services will be at 1500 on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Lubbock, followed by a grave-side service at Resthaven.

It has been hard lossing a friend but the community as a whole has really come together to help out.

Bones and his wife had been shopping for a new stove since the one in their house recently went out. Some of the guys went to buy her a new one and when a local store found out why we were buying the stove they donated one to the family-no charge. The funeral and service is being taken care of as well.

Its nice to see the good in people every now and then instead of the s**t of society. Speaking of…

The driver of the other vehicle, Justin McKinney age 25, was arrested today after being released from the hospital. He has been charged with Intoxicated Manslaughter as well as Intoxicated Assault.

His passanger, Justin Walkup age 24, is still listed in critical condition.

While its no condolence, like you said it’s nice to see business be standup and do that for his family. That alone is commendable in times where it seems all “business” cares about is making a dollar.

Sorry for the loss of one of your brothers. My prayers go out to his wife and sons.

I know first hand how hard it is to lose a friend in the line of duty. I am sorry for your loss.

And my prayers are going out to Cpl. Harvey’s family. I hope that God gives you all strength and understanding.
