I’m looking for a precision type upper and think that the the Stealth upper might be the way to go given Larue’s quality, customer service, and the information I’ve gleaned from a couple of gun rags. I’d like to know more from anyone who owns one or had the opportunity to shoot and/or handle one. How would you rate this upper versus having one built at a comparable price point? What kind of groups are you getting from the 16" or 18" barrels? Thanks.
Hi Ryan<
I have a little over 6k rds through mine. I like it a lot.
We had two FTF during a mil course in NM when Maj Keith Larue (Mark’s Brother) was firing it (using M855 Ball). That was the sum total of problems with the gun.
I would prefer M4 feed ramps, but this gun outshoots me any day of the week.
Thanks Pat. Your endorsement says a lot. If you don’t mind me asking, what barrel length are you running and what sort of groups are you getting?
I placed another order with them this morning and got to talking about their uppers. I was told they basicly had a 3/4 moa guarantee with the proper ammo (but I can’t remember which for sure) and most are getting 1/2 moa accuracy. We were talking 18" mid length.
I’ve fired one a bit. 16" I think.
As we know, “fit & finish” is not an issue to those concerned with function. However, I did have to hold this one for a while admiring it… very nice.
I only had 55 gr ammo to run through it, but it was clear the potential was there for quite more. A few days later, in fact, that upper was grouping under 0.75" at 100 yd with 77 gr Black Hills.
Ryan, a customer of mine wanted a clone of the LT Stealth upper, but wanted a 1/7 twist with M4 feed ramps. More info on the one I built: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=6093

What kind of practical differences are there between a 16" and 18" barrel. I guess what I’m asking is there any measurable gain in choosing the 18" barrel? Certainly, there will be an increase in velocity and accuracy, but how much?
While velocity is very much a function of barrel length, accuracy is not.
The dimensional conformance and consistency of the chamber and bore, the squareness of the bolt face to the bore line, the lack of residual internal stresses in the barrel steel, and the lack of contact between barrel the rest of the rifle fwd of the barrel/receiver joint are the major rifle factors.
Ammunition quality of course being the other biggie.
Thanks…good to know. So then, is the increase in velocity significant enough to warrant an 18" over the 16" barrel? I know I’m being a PITA, but I want to do this right up front.
Not in my opinion. Your only loosing a little FPS, but gain a lighter, more compact weapon.

I just got my Larue Stealth Upper in a 16" version and love it. Will be getting it to the range soon. I say get one, you will love it. As a matter of fact I have bought a bunch of stuff from austin @ Larue Tactical lately. The stuff is top shelf and I would not hesitate to buy another from them. Just watch your wallet because once you start buying Larue stuff it will be hard on the finances due to the stuff being of the best quality and now days, you get what you pay for. A pic of mine still being put together…
Personaly I don’t think the velocity gain would be over 50fps, probably closer to 40fps. but I have 3 16" guns and am seriously considering a mid length in 18" just because.
And yes, its as if I have a standing order with LaRue, every two weeks they send me a hat and usually throw in a part or two.![]()
Thats funny TWR, I have received 3 Dillos and 2 hats just from making orders with them. They do know how to take care of their customers, thats for sure!![]()
Ryan- sorry, i missed this.
That gun was a company gun, and 10’5". I generally don’t shoot these to measure group size as the Aimpoint makes it hard to do.
However, when zeroing (50yds) i shot several 1/2" and 5/8" 5 shot groups- way better then this should shoot w/ service ammo (M855 Ball) and 55 gr.
It has sufficient accuracy to do steel at 200.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for the help everyone. Decisions, decisions. ![]()
Me too.
If you buy them from Global Tactical they come with feedramps.
We also have them in stock with the M4 cuts.
