LR308 question...

Hi folks. I’m a new member here and new “AR” owner. I bought a DPMS LR308 Oracle back around Christmas time. I love it so far. It’s not going to be “tactical”, just practical. I put a Leupold (there is no other brand of optics in my opinion) Mark AR 4-12x40 scope on it using a Nikon one-piece base and just installed a DPMS aluminum free-floating handguard and Magpul MOE grip. My question concerns stocks. I like the factory stock but I’d like something a little less clunky. Without breaking the bank. I can’t see spending $250. The funds are available. I’d just rather use them for something else. Any suggestions? My other question concerns removal of the factory stock. How do I go about that? Any help is appreciated.

Have you looked at a ACE light weight skeleton stock ? I love em’.
They are reasonably priced to boot.

I kind of like the looks of those. I would like to keep the adjustability. I have long arms and almost never shoot with the stock collapsed but my gun is primarily a “truck gun/ranch rifle” that is much easier to handle and manipulate in the cab of my pickup with the stock collapsed. It even lays pretty nicely on my center console when collapsed. I see that like just about everything AR-related these days, stocks are about impossible to get. I wouldn’t be opposed to a Magpul if I could find one reasonably-priced. I might do some checking on ebay. Will any of the Magpul or other brands simply slip onto and work with the existing stock tube?

Assuming it came with the carbine buffer tube, virtually all AR stocks are compatible. The question is if it is a “mil-spec” or “commercial” carbine buffer tube, but there are FAQ’s readily available that will show you the difference. Either way, it is easy enough to find a stock. The Ace units are excellent, but since you want to retain the collapsible function I would recommend an MOE or CTR.

Stocks are readily available from many places. All depends if you need a receiver extension etc or not. The kits are generally mia but you can buy stuff seperately fine. Think dsg arms has most of their stocks in stock but most kits are backorder.

I wouldnt get any popular gun parts off of ebay, as you can easily spend money just to find you have a clone or airsoft part. Risk isnt worth the savings imo.

I’m a pretty experienced and careful ebay shopper. I collect antique pocket watches (Elgins specifically) and all of my watches are ebay purchases so I kind of know the ins and outs of the ebay thing. I bought a Magpul MOE pistol grip off ebay and it’s the real deal - came with the box and everything and I did plenty of research on the Magpul site before “pulling the trigger”. I see the main differences between commercial and mil-spec tubes are the angle on the end of the tube and the diameter. I’m a diesel mechanic and have micrometers and digital calipers so I’ll do some measuring. A new stock isn’t a huge priority but just something I’m thinking about. I put 10 rounds in an inch and a half at 75 yards just jacking around today shooting prone laying on some cactus so I can shoot the gun fine as-is. My main problem right now is I’m getting a failure to extract problem where occasionally the bolt is leaving the empty just barely in the chamber before sliding back and back forward to catch the next round which it’s then jamming underneath the empty. I cleaned and lubed the entire bolt and carrier assembly and the problem got worse instead of better. 3 times in those 10 rounds. I’m not sure if it’s an ammo (Winchester white box) problem or what but I’m not happy about it. The rifle shoots great otherwise.
