Lowers

Outside of forged and cast lowers, are there any really differences in a striped lower?
Correct me if I am wrong, since I am very often, but it seems that the upper is far more critical then the lowers in reliability.

Pick a roll mark you like and have fun building.

Occasionally you’ll see a few brands with magwells that are a little tighter than others, which may preclude using certain brands of magazines, but 103M 95G is right, it’s pretty much pick the rollmark you prefer.

For the most part a lower is a lower. Find a known brand and let price and preferred roll mark be you guide.

Many brands get their lowers from the same source. Not sure how accurate this is currently, but it gives you an idea:

great list- where you get it?

I’m just repeating information that I have read here, but from what I understand, overall, a lower is a lower with the only exception being billet vs. forged.

I say overall, because although say CMT makes lowers for both Stag and RRA, perhaps Stag wants the magwell beveled whereas RRA doesn’t. (Not saying this is the case, just using it as an example to illustrate a point)

LAR is in the town I live in. A friend at church is good friends with a VP there. I should see if they sell small batches to local FFLs…

That would be a fun rollmark. “Smiling Chad’s” lowers.

It’s a sticky at another forum I frequent (Florida Shooters Network). I’m sure it been posted here before (other sites too).

The only differences I have noticed is some have tighter mag wells than others that can cause problems for P mags dropping free. Namely my Laurer lower made my LMT would not drop P Mags Niether did the other 2 that my buddies got from the same order. So I made mine into a 22 lr dedicated gun. I like the finish better on LAR and Saber vs the Stag and Laurer lowers I had. But that is a cosmetic thing.

Out of the fordged lowers I would avoid Roggio.

There’s an old timer who used to be around here who always said… "don’t trust anyone who has a last name that ends with “i” or “o”.

That list has errors in it. Please do not post it again.

Colt makes most of their own lowers, if not all.

This implies Colt is on the same level as all other aftermarket brands and is misleading.

Do you have an updated one?

+1 Can you correct the errors or at least point them out?

no, scotty just seizes opportunities to condescend.

If you know there are errors fix them and relax alittle.

that’s why I said. “Not sure how accurate this is currently, but it gives you an idea”.

So you don’t really know? Even if they make MOST of their lowers, maybe the list is correct.

Yes, Sir! I’ll be sure to ask your permission before I post ever again… Well, starting after this post.

You cannot win this argument.

If you look at a Colt lower next to others, you can easily see the tool marks are not even close to the same as the others.

I said “most” because I don’t have the ability to keep track of their day to day production and suppliers. I said “most” so someone can’t pin me down.
