Lower ?

If I take a standard AR lower that has 5.56 caliber on it , what is the biggest caliber I can go with if any if I decide to do a build other than the standard 223/5.56? Thanks in advance.

a. 6.5
b. 6.8
c. 7.62
d. all of the above

Definitely D.

OK. That narrows it down to 2.

You can use 6.8, I don’t know for sure but i think you can also use the 6.5 grendel if you can get an upper for it.

Thank’s for the replies, I’m just trying to see what’s available to me as an option for my next build. I’m also thinking piston upper also as an option, that’s why I’m asking here as to get the best possible info b4 I start purchasing items. Thanks again.

.22LR
5.7
7.62x39mm
5.45x39mm
oh and a boat load of handgun rounds

There are also some wildcats out there. All in all there is a bunch to choose from. don’t forget .458 SOCOM and 50 Beowolf. 5.56x43 is I think the flattest shooting AR-15 round IIRC, I would go 6.8 SPC. It’s easiest to get, their is boatloads of load data and SSA ammo is top notch especially their combat loads.

Thanks all for the replies. Well it looks like the 6.8 wins.

good choice;)

Are their any legal issues with taking a lower marked “5.56” and then putting an upper of different caliber on it?
