Lower Quality

Based on Policy I am only allowed Colt, Bushmaster,or Armalite.
My primary gun is a Colt 6920. I want to build a second. My question is has anyone used the Bushmaster lowers for builds?, and are there any problems with the quality of just the lower? Are the rear receiver extension threads “standard”?

I will fill it with other parts, Colt, LMT or CMT.

Any opinions on quality of internal parts? Manufacturers you guys have used that are top shelf?

As far as an upper I want to wait for a BCM, if not LMT is at the top…

Thanks.
Jack

I don’t think you’ll have any problem at all with Bushmaster lowers.

BTW, rifle match tonight, come on out.

Thanks for the invite.

I built a lightweight carbine on a Bushmaster (LAR) lower. Everything but the receiver itself is Colt. It’s an AR6520 configuration. No problems with parts fit or interaction, and it runs like a top.

The Bushy lower is as good as any other. LMT makes lots of their stuff. Here is a list of internals vendors/mfg that I recommend for quality parts:

LMT
Rock River
Stag Arms
Bushmaster
Colt
Noveske
Vltor
Knights Armament
J&T Distributing
Bravo Company USA
DPMS
LaRue Tactical
Leitner-Wise
Magpul
Patriot Ordinance Factory
Sabre Defence
Samson Mfg

All I ever use is Bushmaster and I never had not one problem with them at all.

Not for nothin’ but you do realize that statement means absolutely nothing, right? If you only ever built one rifle and shot one mag through it, that statement would be true. If you have built 500 rifles for contractors serving in Iraq because you’re the Blackwater armorer and none of your guys have ever had a failure, that statement would be true.

I suspect you fall somewhere in the middle, but precisely where is important.

Maybe what he is saying is that he would recommend a Bushmaster based on personal experience.

I have 6 of them and they all rock and roll with the best of them.

o.k., somebody get in here!!! i’m a newb, and have just realized how little i know, my silly self!!! i’m gonna get a few lowers myself to throw under the bed,[well i might use ONE of them] and i’e been wondering what to get to "invest"my hard-earnr’d cash in. i have contacted a guy that sells a lot of brands, was thinking of ltm with a 2-stage trigger, i have 2 bushmaster with match triggers now, compass lake eng. upper on one , factory b.m. a2 upper with fluted barrel and free-float handguards on the other. i haven’t had a moments problem out of either.-------now—ya’ll got me paranoid!!!WHAT DO WE WANT TO BUY???

Generally speaking, a forged lower is a forged lower. Out-of-spec lowers are fairly rare from any of the big manufacturers, as long as you stay away from the real garbage like Vulcan you should be good.

What he said.

Bill

that is pretty much what i had decided, based on all the posts i’ve been reading. thanks to you guys i’ve learned to be a lot more selective when it comes to uppers, though!!

What I have learned from the diggin I have been doing in the AR parts sene is alot of the diffrent companys get there parts from diffrent vendors and each other. When they are running low on some part they will get them from diffrent sources, who ever has them when they need them, so you may be getting certain parts from where ever. The better companys will cull there parts and reject them if they dont stack up!

i have a made some builds lately on double-star lowers, no problems what so ever. and also mega machine with the same results =very good. i would have bought the charles daly’s lowers but i was late to the party–lol.

the only lower i know is horrid is the vulcan/hess carbon-fiber. seen a few of them cracked and split open.
