I just installed a TROY MRF-MX on my AR, nice rail but it’s too damn wide and the bottom rail sticks down a bit too far.
I like the profile of the Daniel Defense Mk18 RIS II rails the left, right and bottom rails are in tight but the price is very high.
I actually had one of these I was borrowing from our shop but I had to return it hence buying the Troy.
What other options are there for lower profile rails? I want a mono style rail. The only non mono style one I’ve liked so far that is low profile is the LaRue but I’d like to get something that’s continuous.
The newer Troy Industries and the Vtac “Extreme BattleRails” are about as low-proflie as you can get and also have a continuos top rail. They are also very reasonably priced compared to other options out there (Less than $200).
That won’t work, I have a low profile gas block. Also, I want something in the 9~11 inch range.
I guess I should have been more clear. I want a quad rail, not a tube. I know you can add rails but I want full length rails on all sides and by the time you add them, it’s just as thick as the MRF series.
All the major manufacturers are gonna be around the same price. DD Omega would be the easiest one to install. You dont need a gunsmith so that can lower your overall costs. DD Omega 9" is around $303, while the 12" is around $341. 12" would cover up the gas block too. Might as well get a 12". However the DD omega and Lite bottom rails stick out more. Larue bottom rail is about a 1/4" slimmer, but its not as easy to install as a DD Omega.
I dont have a direct side by side pic but pictured below is a DD 12" Lite. You can see that machining line on the bottom rail. Just imagine on the larue the bottom rails would be where the machining line is now. Thats about how much shorter the Larue is over DD. With that, since the Larue is shorter, the Magpul AFG pictured there does not fit with rail ladders on the side rails because its too close to the side rails when everything is moved up. The top edge of the AFG almost touches the side rails on a Larue, if you can imagine that too.
KAC URX rails are awesome and fit the bill except for the cost thing. But take into consideration you don’t need a front sight and it makes it a little more palatable.
If you tell us your needs, rather than your wants, we might be able to better help. You want a monolithic top rail? Why? Hell back up a step and tell us why you want a FF system at all. Do you NEED four full rails all the way around the tube? etc.
As far as pricing, Palmetto State Armory has a 10% off sale running at the moment and free shipping on orders over $200.00. Most AR parts (99%) are included in the sale.
Example:
DD 9.0 Lite rail $332.00 ($10.00 shipping included)
Sale Price for the same rail $289.80 shipped to your door. A $30.00+ savings.
I have been very happy with my DD Omega X rail. I think I paid $180 for it. It is made with a gap for the FSB, but I have seen people use it with a low profile gas block. They just covered the “hole” with a ladder rail and mounted a flip up sight on the front section of the rail.
