I can second some EMod love - packed full of batteries, it’s the best thing out there for counterbalancing my nose-heavy POF. Having a full beard though, I’ve lost a whisker or twelve at the range before. I’ll have to try the Gunfighter sticker trick!
What could have been wrong? I guess it was out of spec. Yours was the exception and not the norm. Every ACS I’ve ever handled was absolutely solid.
Glad to hear that for multiple reasons.
I’ll still stick with my SOPMOD though.
It’s also cool that it’s part of the Mk.18 kit. A small reason I dig it.
The VLTOR IMOD would be the closest thing to the KAC/LMT SOPMOD. The VLTOR EMOD and Magpul ACS stocks are both longer than a SOPMOD.
All the ones you mention could be mil spec stocks and on a kac lower I assume that is mil spec. While the stock could be out of spec, I think the best explanation is a commercial acs kon a mil spec tube.
All the other stocks that fit were probably correct mil spec on mil spec.

+1 on this if all the other stocks fit and the ACS was loose then it was a commercial spec stock. My ACS as others have mentioned is rock solid as is every magpul stock with a friction lock. I have never had one loose.
I can’t comment on the SOPMOD, iMod, EMOD or iPod, but I do have an ACS and it works great for me. Absolutely no rattle whatsoever and at 6’4" with a long wingspan, I really like the longer LOP.
It’s light to me (but my other rifles have PRSs and UBRs) and I just ordered another one from Palmetto State Armory (I think they are still having their 10% off sale which makes it the least expensive place I’ve found the ACS stock!
I have 2 SOPMODS and 2 ACSs. I like both but the SOPMOD is a sleeker design and a little lighter. For the cost, if looking to save some coin, I’d go with the ACS (Mine don’t rattle).
It seems that for most here in this folder that there are a couple of nice alternatives to the SOPMOD, but that the SOPMOD is pretty much the leader for this type of stock. I’m not surprised. The moment I tucked my cheek into a SOPMOD I felt right at home and loved it, no grooves or ridges, just a nice ample and smooth place to snug my cheek into for the ride.
I have a feeling I’m going to wind up with a SOPMOD and an iMOD. ![]()
The SOPMOD is the original here, but it is pricey. My SR-15E3 has one (the second I’ve owned) and I don’t see it going anywhere. It is a high quality stock.
At half the price, the iMod is a great value - and you can still find closeout VLTOR Modstocks here and there at very low prices. All of these alternatives show that it is possible to capture many of the features that make the SOPMOD popular at a lower price point. But neither the iMod nor the ACS feels as solid as my LMT SOPMOD.
If the SOPMOD has captured your attention but you are looking to save a few dollars, check around the EE. I’ve seen new or lightly used LMT takeoffs sold there from time to time at a discount.
I’ve said it a few times now - these are all quality choices, and selecting a stock is like selecting a grip - it is a personal choice. Only you know what feels right, looks right and balances the gun right.
I was hoping to hear this. I am going to be in need of storage on the gun and the stocks felt nice, I was hoping the iMod would be sufficient.
I own a Crane/LMT SOPMOD and two Vltor Mod stocks. For the price you can’t beat the Vltor stocks.
FWIW, I love my Emod stocks. I store a bunch of crap in there (batteries for my optic, flashlight, tools for the optic). Not sure why the SOPMOD is about twice as expensive, but, I’m happy with my VLTOR saddle-style stocks.
The only negative I’ve heard about the VLTOR stocks is the tendency to pinch facial hair. Has not happened with me though.
Does anyone know the weight of the sopmod? I have been able to find the weight of the imod but not the sopmod.
Anyone try a Troy Battle Axe yet? Seems to have the benefits of the Emod and the Sopmod combined.
I did not like the extra length of the ACS over my carbine modstock, same size as the Imod.
My experience with the SOPMOD is limited to three days of shooting on a T&E gun during a class. I was a nice fitting stock, a great length for a Recce but in my opinion not worth the asking price. I see they now have a shorter version, to compete with the Imod but at a price expected to be double that of the Imod, they can keep it too. I have the Emod on my recce build, I like it. I like the small extra compartment for stashing a back-up set of Surefire hearing protection. I picked up an ACS stock for my duty rifle but ended up taking it off and putting an Imod on it. My wife’s build has the Imod Clubfoot stock on it. I think for the money the Imods can’t be beat.
I’ve started to just buy complete LMT lowers because you can eat up some of the price of the SOPMOD stock by going that route. Both the ACS and VLTOR stocks are completely as functional, but the SOPMOD just feels a bit more robust to me, and has less of an over-the-top ultra-high-tech look to it.
I just realized that shooting position and LOP/wingspan makes a pretty big difference. For taller oranguatans like me who shoot NTCH, on the SOPMOD and IMOD I was half-on half-off the stock, which defeated the comfort on there, but the EMOD and ACS I’m right at the front edge and it works; it’s worth the weight offset even on an SBR or ultralite rifle.
As much as I do like the SOPMOD, I can’t get as comfortable with the flat back on it - I much prefer the angled (or even curved) back. I’m starting to like the ACS a tough more than the EMOD, though it requires the ACS to be kitted out (QD Cup, Extended buttpad) nearly to used UBR prices to make it better than the EMOD, and it still lacks a strike plate (nonissue for me).
I’ll be running either A5 or Entry length receiver extensions from here anyway, so the ACS and EMOD make more sense anyway.
I still like how VLTOR offers both lengths, and at the lowest price for both.
This is what I did. Love the SOPMOD on 16" guns. If you are looking for a SBR I would look at Magpul MOE/CRT (or even the good old tried and true M4 stock) for ballance and lighter weight. There was a newer one that was shown at SHOT this month that looks really interesting (a cross between the M4 and the SOPMOD) I am interested in checking out the wieght of it (sorry but I do not remember the manuf.). YMMV.
