The front sight drum on my new AK is so loose it self-adjusts on recoil. I can easily move it with my fingers. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bill

replace it with a new part from K-VAR
Depends on how difficult to move you want it, from tight and adjustable to set in place and can’t move without special tools or treatment to ain’t ever gonna move again for nuthin’.
Presuming the bore in the site tower itself isn’t the actual issue, (you have confirmed, right?), one could:
Stipple the outside of the drum with a punch
Knurl it (really difficult to accomplish on such a small item)
Rockset it
Stake it
Tack weld it
Pin it
Set screw it
Pick a winner
Or, just replace it as suggested above with one that fits like it should and be done with it.
Thanks guys. I’ve decided to return the rifle. In addition to the loose drum, I was not able to shoot to point of aim no matter how far I moved the sight. I think this rifle has more problems than the loose drum and I paid a good dollar to get it. It’s going back and I’ll stick with Arsenal going forward.
Sounds like a wise choice to me. Let us know how the Arsenal works out. ![]()
What make and model is the new AK.
Usually a good idea. Arsenal puts out a high quality rifle.
Do us a favor though and disclose who’s POS it was so that others can avoid the issues that you encountered. Pics of the problems would also be great. The good thing is that the company is making you whole which is a sign of a good company even if a turd went out the door.
Maybe wait until you have a refund though…
The rifle was imported/built by Vector Arms and I purchased the gun from Blaine at Atlantic Firearms. Blaine and I talked about Vector Arms’ product and he said he’d sold hundreds of rifles from them without any problems and I believe him. However, for the price I paid, I expected better quality control from Vector. At any rate, Blaine promised me he’d make me whole if I bought the Vector and was disatisfied and, to Blain’s credit, he is as good as his word. He’s going to have the gun sent back to Vector and he’s refunding my money, including the FFL fee.
I don’t think I’d buy another Vector Arms gun, but Blaine seems to be an honest guy and if Atlantic gets another gun I’m lookin for I’d do business ith them again.
I have a SGL21 and I’ve gussied it up somewhat. It’s been a great rifle so far.
The new rifle was a Bulgarian underfolder in 762x39 from Vector Arms. I liked the rifle except for the sight issues.
Strange for a vector. They at least USED to be very good quality. I know many people that have shot them for years with zero problems.
I had to send my kit build to Troy at In Range to fix this same problem (among others) on mine.
But see if Blaine will give you a replacement? - on second thought get an arsenal with a side folder. UF’s are cool looking but worthless to shoot if you ask me.
That is unusual for Vector. I’m glad your dealer is taking such good care of you. The SGL is a great value AK, its hard to beat them for the cash.
Blaine at Atlantic thought highly of Vector too. Just my bad luck I guess.
