State legislators Wednesday met with representatives of Remington Arms to discuss the company’s future in Ilion, according to a news release.
During the meeting it was learned that Remington is making a $20 million dollar investment in upgrades at the Ilion plant, and also has vowed to work with local colleges to develop a workforce training program.
Senators James Seward, R-Oneonta, Hugh Farley, R-Schenectady and Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, as well as assembly members Marc Butler, R-Newport, Claudia Tenney, R-New Hartford, and Anthony Brindisi, D-Utica, met with Remington to see what they could do to ensure the company remains in the Mohawk Valley.
They all voted against the recently passed state Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act, which includes a stricter definition of assault weapons and bans magazines that hold more than seven rounds.
I’m thinking that Remington will be granted some type of Exemption’s to be able to produce banned items for out of state sales only, the 20 million “Investment” and promise to hire locals is a strong enticement for the politicians to allow such a deal.
No it’s not.
Magpul is privately owned and has balls. Remington is held by an investment group and will be happy with an exemption that allows them to manufacturer, regardless of what is going on around them.
This is the reality of the industry. The big companies like S&W, Colt, Mossberg, Ruger, Remington, Glock… are all in business for one reason and one reason only.
If you look at the list of companies boycotting states, or threatening to move… they’re all privately held. Not one publicly traded company has committed to a boycott.
We are in agreement. Magpul said no to the exclusion/exemptions and stood on their principles. If this legislation passes in CO they will leave. CO can eat a bag…
Remington pussed out and look the incentive for the reasons you noted.
I wasn’t clear but this and what you said is what I meant.
You cannot compare companies like Glock and Remington to companies like BCM, Magpul and Noveske. These large corporations are in it only for the money and could not care less what happens to the 2A rights of citizens living in their own home states or in any other state for that matter. There will always be big fat .gov contracts through Law Enforcement and overseas buyers.
