Looking to put optics on my new colt LE6920mp

I just got my Colt LE6920 off of layaway from gander mountain ( put it on layaway dec 12th really dodged a bullet) I am wondering what to do optics wise i was looking at possible a acog but I also seen the eotech with magnifier and dont know what route to go? Anyone have the eotech with the magnifier and have experience with an acog that could give me insight to there preference or anything they didnt like on either side? Thanks in advance Erik

Personaly, I am not a fan of the magnifier.

You can go with a Aimpoint/Eotech/mepro21

A 1-4/1-6 optic MTAC/NXS/SWFA/S&B/Leup

or Acog

You need to decide what you want it to do. What ranges you plan to shoot, how fast you want to put rounds on target, what possitions you plan to shoot.

With 1-4, 1-6, and now 1-8/10 optics there is no reason to use the magnifier setup. I am not really a fan of the acog, I feel like you can get a more versitile and precisise optic for the same price. They are really just a simplified combat optic that puts durrability above all.

You need to spend some time between each of them, and determine what you like/want.

I am mainly looking to shoot 50 to 150 for coyote hunting and about the same for hog hunting down south, also just general shooting fun at the farm.

The 1-6 Leupold is a very nice sight… I dont know what your price range is.

The Bushnel 1-6.5 FFP 1/10mil is also a very good choice.

If you decide on a magnified optic, get ahold of Scott at Liberty Optics. He has the best prices in the industry and Like most of the snipershide crew, Have been buying from him since 2003.

And if your budget is smaller, The Vortex PST 1-4 is a very good optic for the money with lifetime warranty.

Thank you, my budget is around 1500, appreciate the links

I have an Eotech on my duty M4, a TA44 ACOG (1.5x) on my son’s M4, and a TA01NSN (4x) on my daughter’s M4. My personal preference is the Eotech or the TA44. I find the magnification on my daughter’s rifle to be a slight hassle for up close shooting, no issues with the other two. If my department would be a little more progressive I would gladly carry the TA44 due to not having to worry about dead batteries. Just my 2 cents. Find what works for you and run with it.

With the budget that you quoted, I’d definitely look at one of the many 1-X variable options that TurretGunner mentioned. You might even have money left over for a free float hand guard to maximize the effectiveness of the magnified optic.

I personally like the red dot/magnifier option, but my usage (and budget) is different from yours.

The EOTech w/ magnifier provides versatility. $500 under budget is also a big bonus.

What is the weapon’s purpose? What distances are you realistically going to shoot? You don’t have to buy everything now.

If this is your first a AR, for speed, ease of use and $1100 under budget = Aimpoint PRO. For the same budget you can add ammo, and a carbine class.

1-4x optics are a decent choice but are more expensive and much harder to learn to use effectively. I’d wait for magnification until you’ve thoroughly mastered manipulations and sub 100 yard shooting.

You will get many opinions on this, here is my personal experience and opinion:

I have used EOTECHs on swat for 7 years and grew to not like them for a variety of reasons - Battery failures during callouts, finicky electrical issues (battery good optic went bad this happened to 2 guys). I like the reticle, and precision they offered for close work. Special Forces use them, so I am sure they work for them and they probably have a good stash of batteries to burn through whenever they want. They are not a bad optic, just not my choice when it is my money buying it.

I own an Aimpoint T1 2moa, M3 4moa and an ACOG TA01NSN.

My ACOG was less than a grand and is beautiful. It is quickly becoming my favorite scope. Ease of use, reticle glows in low light, nice crisp/sharp black reticles in daylight, range finding bullet drop compensator reticle, bombproof construction, battery free, stellar reputation amongst SOF with 15 years in SOPMOD. You will here a lot of guys who like to run and gun and compete slam it for its 1.5" eye relief, its fixed 4x, and the cost. Once you peer through the crisp clear glass and throw some precision shots out at 300 and 400 meters, ringing steel with ease, you will appreciate the optic. For Coyotes, it would be awesome. It is a simple, set it and forget it optic.

The Aimpoint line is durable, requires batteries (5-7 year life), light weight, zero magnification and also used by SOF.

I also, am opposed to the flip over 3x thing. If you want 3x approximately you should really check out the TA11J by Trijicon. That is probably the best all around ACOG made. 3.5x35, cross hair reticle with Bullet Drop Compensation, Dyetime and Nighttime illlumination with tritium and fiber optic. The TA11J is on my list in life. My long, long, long list of things to own before I am eaten by maggots and worms.

Alright I finally got out and put some rounds through this weapon and its great its is world’s better than my old bushmaster … I haven’t had this much fun shooting in years that being said , I think I am going to get an eotech. With a magnifier and as for the coyotes I might leave that job for my .17 hmr … God I love this riffle on that note I think its time to burn another $150 bucks in ammo :dance3:

Good choice…

I was originally going to use it for coyote and hog hunting but after dropping a lot of communist f faygo cans I am going to probably use it for hog hunting down south and for general fun

I don’t hunt hog so I don’t know. But if it’s typically done <100yards, I’d vote an Aimpoint PRO.
