Looking for the perfect .223 round

Hey guys, I’m wondering if ya’ll can help me. I’m looking for a round to stock up on and I’d like to have these capabilities -

Low flash
Performs well against car windshields
performs out to 300 yds
decent price

I’ve been using the Federal fusion MSR 62 gr JSP, but it’s all dried up. I also have the Federal ETSP, and the 64 gr Speer GD. I can’t find any of these anywhere, much less at a reasonable price.

Thanks,
Mate

The 55gr Gold Dots are in stock at SGAMMO, Ammunition Depot, and G and R tactical- Grant has the 64gr version as well.

I just bought 140 rounds of the 55gr stuff right now from Sgammo. I wanted the 64gr stuff since I started my collection with it, but I could not find it priced for what I bought it before.

Next weekend I am going to shoot all Gold Dot versions I have to see their POI shift- The 5.56 55gr, .223 55gr and 64gr.

I’m really interested to see what the difference is between them. I’ve got the Leupy mk4 CMR2 reticle and I’m trying to stay within that 62gr flight path.

I am going to make a thread, maybe, about POI shift with common defensive loads with a carbine zero’d with M193.

I got interested in that when MK318 Mod0 was hitting my 4" target at 100 yards, when my rifle was zero’d with CBC 62gr.

By the way, Ammo To GO, has Federal Fusion 62gr and the MSR version.

Post your findings in the ammo forum.

Any updates?

Sorry I forgot to update this since I did not keep the original target. However, .223 55gr Gold Dots were the closest to M913.

I will try to remember to try it again when I go the 100yd range next.

I’ve decided to stock up on ammunition loaded with the Barnes TSX bullet in 70gr. It’s performance OCONUS has been well documented (Brown tip). I’ve had very good luck with it out to 400 yards and a couple weeks ago I took a Pannone vehicle class. Shooting through windshields I got all my hits with it - most 5.56 ammo did not and the targets were only a few feet in front of the bumper.

I’ll keep some 77gr around for long range shooting but the 70gr is going to be my defensive and do it all round. Now I just need to see who loads the best for my rifles. Looking at Asym, SSA, and Southwest Ammo.
