Hey guys, looking for some input on a dedicated 22lr build. I have been looking into this for a little while and I am down to the critical components, Bolt and barrel. I have been reading about Spike and CMMG for a while. Can any one give me a real assesment of these 2? Or is it like everything else, they are both good and it’s just down to company preference. Thanks for your input.
It’s my understanding that Spikes is no longer producing their .22 AR. So my experience is limited to the CMMG dedicated .22 Sierra upper (M4 simulation). I have 800+ rounds through mine now and am very pleased. I have used mostly CCI Minimag, CCI Standard, Eley Sport, and Fed bulk (Walmart). The only issues have been 5 stovepipes with Fed. With the other ammo there have been no problems. I have a Bushnell red dot on it with a dot in circle reticle, and it is very accurate with that setup. The only thing I would change is to upgrade the bolt assembly to the Stainless Steel one, but my standard one is okay. WB
Have you looked at a Kies M4 .22 Long Rifle Dedicated Upper. I don’t own one but would like to. They look really well made and use the Black Dog magazines. A local shop has them and if money was no object I would get one.http://www.kiesfirearms.com/Rimfire_GY6E.html
Joe Bob sells them http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/Kies_M4_22_Long_Rifle_Dedicated_Upper_p/kies-m4-22lr%20upper.htm
Thanks for the info guys. I hadn’t checked Spike’s web site for awhile. Just figured they were still doing 22lr. I will look into the Kies as well.
I appreciate the input.

Spikes no longer manufactures any .22 uppers or conversions, and they have kind of crapped out on their “lifetime warranty” As they don’t stock replacement parts anymore (so avoid used ones). Luckily the CMMG kit works with the spikes barrel collar. I have heard nothing but good things about Nordic uppers, and haven’t heard a lot of bad about CMMG.
