Looking for info.

I have been looking for a good shooting, but no need to be a die hard target rifle. I like the DPMS SDM-R. I like the full size rifles not M4 style. I also like the Stag Arms rifles as well. Who do you guys think make the best full size (20" barrel) rifle for the money. As stated before I am not looking for a die hard target precision rifle. I want something that is capable of producing 3/4 to 1 m.o.a. groups. I am only going to be shooting to about 500 yards at the most, however most shooting will be done at less than 200 yards. I am just trying to get opinions. Thanks guys.

I would probably look into Rock River Armament’s rifles with 20" SS Wilson barrels way before DPMS. That’s for sure.

What type of ammo will you be shooting? That might dictate a barrel twist although I think most Wilsons through RRA are 1:8.

I will be shooting 55 gr and higher up to 77 gr. It all depends, I might hunt ground hogs with it or I might go long range target shoot, so… I have also looked into the RRA NM.

I voted with my wallet on a Sabre Defence XR-15A2 with chrome-lined bore. SDI claims I should get around 1MOA or better with the right ammo. The ONLY drawback is the 1/9 barrel twist, but 69gr SMK’s should do fine at 500 yards unless you like shooting in the wind. For hogs, I would use something like the 62gr Federal Tactical Bonded, a 64gr Speer Gold Dot, or the 64gr Winchester PP. All of which are right at home in a 1/9 twist barrel. The Corbon 62gr DPX round also warrents a look.

I was asking because if you go with light varmint loads you might not want a very fast twist of 1:7. They can supposedly spin those lighter bullets apart or destabilize them.

Just go ahead and shoot the ground hogs with the heavier stuff and you’ll be able to get a fast twist rate with absolutely no worries.

WS6- CorBons? Is that DPX a new offer from them? Frangible I take it? Is there a reason you want something specifically made to fragment like that? IIRC, all good 5.56 rounds will fragment in a body. Maybe you want something that won’t go through the living room and into the next room?

ETA: I’m asking because alien might still want to consider ammo choices to help make his barrel choice for him.
