Can you guys advise o some good affordable LED lanterns? I’ve seen the Streamlight Siege, nice features but it is expensive. I’m just looking for something to be used around the house during a power outage.
Thanks

I’ve never used this but I found it on amazon . Way cheaper than a streamlight. http://http://www.amazon.com/WeatherRite-5572-Traditional-efficient-lighting/dp/B0058K3284/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1388983613&sr=8-7&keywords=led+lantern
I use a combination of these,
Www.amazon.com/Ryobi-18-Volt-One-Workshop-Light/dp/B00A4C3ODO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389022177&sr=8-1&keywords=ryobi+lantern, and these
Www.amazon.com/Energizer-Weather-Ready-Folding-Lantern/dp/B001D937SY/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1389022659&sr=8-9&keywords=energizer+light
Both work well.I have tested them and they run a long time. I use tenergy rechargeable D cell batteries for the energizer and have a 6 station charger for the ryobis. I only use our house generator when we need water. I use a 12 v car battery to run my pellet stove. I have 4 energizers and 2 ryobis. I am going to get a couple more ryobis because I can charge batteries faster. I charge whenever the gen is on. Hope this helps.
Got a few at Home Depot for $20 and they have worked well and run a long time.
All of the lights I mentioned were purchased at home depot. I just linked amazon for the convenience. I usually pick one up when I buy something else.
Thanks…Brand/Model?
The solar powered Luci LED lantern ought to be in everyones emergency kit. Not the most output, but just stash a couple collapsed where the sun will hit keep charged. I bought five, but family members begged so need to re-order.

A few different brands I think. I know a few are Coleman. They were on sale at Home Depot. Work fine for basic needs at home. I also keep back up old school lanterns that take lamp oil and or gasoline to run.
Thanks guys,
I went ahead and ordered thew GE Chromalit 3D.
http://www.amazon.com/General-Electric-Bright-Latern-Technology/dp/B007IIYL5C
That should work in my living room. I’ll probably just pick up a few smaller Coleman’s for the kid’s rooms.
I also have a Coleman dual fuel and a traditional kerosene but with young kids around, I’m not comfortable with those.
Have used these Rayovacs with success:

Totally agree with avoiding flame light sources indoors. Good to have kerosene type lights stored away, but LED lights area just great and are safe as can be. This one costs under $20 when on sale. Good luck!
Thanks,
Did you ever post a review?
Negative, I have not had the chance obtain any of these yet. There on the short list, there are reviews online of these lanterns.
I’ve got 3 siege’s and wouldn’t buy any other LED.
They are very versatile (bright, adjustable, can be hung 2 ways, red lens) durable (kids / scouts cant break them)…
They are small and light enough to backpack with and with energizer lithium’s will last a super long time.
I picked up one of these from Costco. Costco is no longer showing them on their website, but I’m sure they can be found elsewhere. Good unit, hi/lo, great run time, well built.
Here is a write up: http://costcocouple.com/ge-led-lantern/
Hope this helps.
Found this tip on buzzfeed…

I’ve got a Siege and really like it, I did not say anything about in my intial post due to the OP saying that he was not interested in them due to price point. Amazon and LAPG have the best prices on these, free shipping is a plus.
That is pretty slick, I like it.
Thanks, that’s the one I got, see my previous post:

I’ve picked up a couple Black Diamond Orbit lamps. They’re run by AAA batteries and are small for packing. There are a couple larger models as well but the little one really lights up a room.

I might look at a couple larger lanterns but am sticking with AA and AAA rechargeable batteries.
