The Benny Hill Rolling Thunder comp I’m now running totally flattens recoil, but in addition to the substantial “thunder” also produces a huge fireball. Great for matches but not for anything else.
I know there is a huge selection of flash hiders available. I also realize that comps and flash hiders are 2 different tools, meant for different purposes. With that said though, there is some crossover among designs as far as how much reduction in both flash and recoil is achieved.
So I’m just throwing the question out to see if you all have any consensus, whether a particular make and model is widely favored to hide flash but also reduce recoil, at least by some margin.
Gun in question has a 16-inch barrel shooting mostly XM193 and equivalents.
I’m partial to the KAC MAMS.
I shoot my ACC/ECC about the same as I do a Mk18.
While it reduces some of the “brake blast”, it’s still a brake and shows flash and lateral concussive force.
In case you can’t see my sig line, I am a KAC employee.
+1 for the MAMS. On my 11.5 SBR, I found it to reduce flash more then my Battlecomp, and BCM comps on a 14.5’s. IMO one of the best all around devices for any length barrel. And I am not a KAC employee
Any of the devices with tines to disrupt flash will work. The MAMS is freaking amazing but the $ puts it out of reach for many, so there are other alternatives that preform in a similar fashion. I prefer the Griffin Armament Flash Comp over the BCM, it controls muzzle rise and flash better. I have yet to try the PA AFAB but I have heard nothing but good and it compares well to the Flash Comp.
"PWS’ FSC (or Flash Suppressing Compensation) series are combination devices intended to reduce recoil while also reducing flash signature. The FSC556 is factory equipment on the FN SCAR16s and some other very nice rifles, including many from PWS of course. It also acts as a QD mount for the Gemtech HALO suppressor.
Machining is great, finish is good, and this is one clear case of excellent design where a “combo” device resulted in very little compromise. Recoil reduction was very good, flash suppression was decent."
I have a BCM on my 16" middie and it seems to work well with flash mitigation and keeps the muzzle rather still. It still dances around a bit, but I think that is my problem not the muzzle devices.
I like that the BCM and Battlecomp have compact profiles similar to the A2. That 3.5-inch-long Benny Hill I’m running now looks and feels like I’ve got a cattle prod on the end of there.
