Looking For Advice/Help With My First Pistol Build

I just decided 3 days ago to turn my middy build into a pistol build instead. How I came about that decision is weird for me. My young nephews just got into airsoft guns and I just bought the older one a really nice SBR AR and the younger one I got him a AR pistol since it fit him almost like a rifle would to us. I shot it a few times and really like they way it felt. His airsoft it very realistic, its all metal and its weight is similar to a real one. Anyway I want to build a AR pistol.
I looked through the picture threads and other threads but I need a little help with a few things.

I have been into shooting and building AR’s since early 2000’s but I never paid any attention at all to the pistols so I’m very unfamiliar with them. I think I know mostly what I want but I want to hear from you guys who know about these to tell me if I should go in a different direction or any advice at all.

Here’s what I have so far
PSA Lower and stripped upper
Magpul MOE grip and trigger guard
Blackhawk lpk
everything else I have was gonna be for my middy so that stuff is unusable

I know I want a smaller sized barrel I just don’t know if 7.5" is too small or just right.
I want a railed forearm with a gas block, no fixed FSB
I want a Krink flash hider (Noveske or if there’s a cheaper comparable one) and want the forearm to go right up to it.

Couple questions, is it legal to use the CAA saddle and is the Magpul AFG legal?

I seen a couple builds I liked in the pic thread but the details of the builds wasn’t listed.

any help or advice, do/don’ts would be really appreciated

Last question, is there any certain buffer tubes to buy and to stay away from?

thanks a ton guys, this is really appreciated cause I want to get this right the first time!

I came across this one during a google search and I think this is pretty much what I want except for the magwell grip but I don’t know the specs such as barrel length and forearm size

Have you researched or read any of the other threads? One thing for sure is I would dump that Blackhawk crap.

Yes i did, i said that i did in my initial post but i couldnt find ,certain info i needed

Sean, thanks a ton!
I seriously appreciate those links, huge help!

One other question, any idea what size barrel it is in the pic i posted

That barrel looks like a 7.5 or shorter. You really do need to do some research. I would never use anything below 10.5" in 5.56.

Thank you and i agree completely about what length to use or not use. I think anything under 10.5 but i really like the size of the barrel in the pic i posted. 7.5 barrel, what length handgaurds free float would i use. Im gonna use a krink flash hider and want it to go right up to tje handgaurds and im not using a fixed FSB, so what length forearm do you think? Thank you very much, seriously appreciated!!?

Seems to be more issues and less accuracy/distance with anything under a 10 inch barrel. Also you can run standard carbine parts for your buffer set up at this length (10" plus). I’ve got a complete BCM upper on a built Spikes lower and have had ZERO issues. I run all kinds of ammo through it with confidence.

I built a pistol using a 7.5in PSA barrel. That was when PSA was still selling barrels. Personally, I think 7.5 looks the most balanced…the barrel is as long as the buffer tube. I’ve seen guys build 14.5 in pistols. Not sure what the point of that is. 10.5 looks goods too, anything longer than that doesn’t look right. With the 7.5 in barrel I had cycling issues. I had to use spikes t-2 buffer to slow it down. Now it runs like a champ. I have ACE’s buffer tube right now and looking to get Sig’s SB15 arm brace for it. I’m not sure how the CAA saddle would work. I think I read somewhere a guy had use some sort of adhesive to keep it from rotating, I could be wrong. Topped my pistol with a Troy claymore. Which the flash is so intense I’ve had people move away from me at the range. They always ask me “what is that?”

I would do 11.5 or 12.5. I just built an AR pistol with a 11.5 BCM lightweight profile barrel. I ran 350 rounds through it and it cycled perfectly with carbine buffer, H buff, ST-T2 buffer and H2 buffer. I’m not gonna deny the 10.3 barrels look pretty nice when assembled, but I think there are some advantages to going with 1-2 inches longer not the least of which is getting to decide from a pretty good selection of quality barrels from BCM. you also get more dwell time for more reliable cycling, and slightly improved ballistics.
