Looking for a good Bore Guide for my AR15

I’m looking for a good bore guide for my AR15. I have been looking at one made by JP Enterprises and one made by Satern Machining. These are very similar except the Satern is made of Delrin and the JP is made from anodized aluminum. How good are these? Anyone have experience with the Satern one? Are there any other good guides to consider? Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions! Pics of each in the attachments below.

I have used both the JP and delrin bore guides (can’t remember the brand of the delrin one). Both worked fine for me.

I use a Possum Hollow Bore Guide.

I have and use one made by Sinclair. It’s metal with a O-ring at the chamber. Well made and will last.

I just talked to Mr. Lucas and put my order in for a Lucas bore guide.

I have a Dewey. Works good for me…

well that wasnt one of the options, which is the lucas?

I have a JP Enterprises one, I like it alot.

i also use a sinclair, but it’s delrin [with an o-ring]. all, or most of their products are geared toward bench shooters, and accuracy buffs. if it is not “up to par”, they don’t sell it.

I have a Dewey, with a O ring and it works fine for me.

I have an old Midway USA bore guide that looks like that Satern one with an o-ring but mine’s blue. It doesn’t get used anymore. I just use my .22 cal rifle boresnake on these:

Have been curious about the Bore Guide, but have been using the Otis flex rods that works for me. But of course, always looking for a better alter-native or one that’s alot more proficient.

Here are some pics of what the Lucas AR15 bore guide looks like. The first pic is courtesy of Mr. Lucas and the second belongs to Alpha Omega Tactical. The reason that I went with the Lucas guide is because Mr. Lucas makes the insert specifically for the cleaning rod you will be using so that you will have an optimal fit. Overkill maybe but I think my rifle is worth it!

Had the Dewey for 8 years with no issues.

Does one really need a bore guide? What is the worst that can happen without one?

I don’t use one. I don’t like having any more than necessary in my kit. I do use the dewey rods. But I pull patches and brushes through by inserting the Dewey in the muzzle end, and pulling out.

A bore guide is not necessary unless you are cleaning from the chamber. A lot of people just clean from the muzzle. Call me old school but I was taught that it was wrong to clean from the muzzle. I once owned an Otis kit but I stopped using them because I hated pulling the brushes and patches through. Most people will say that an AR is not a benchrest rifle and a bore guide isn’t necessary but why take a chance? For me it is just cheap insurance. BTW, I am not an expert here and others opinions will vary.

For some applications cleaning from the muzzle might be “wrong”. For example, I wouldn’t want to run a non concentric sectioned rod in and out of my crown a bunch of times… ouch.

It’s more work to clean from the muzzle, but I like running a tight patch, so it’s worth it to me.

I use Dewey rods in conjunction with Lucas rod guides for all centerfires. The Lucas guides are excellent.

I’ve used both of those and prefer the JP one.
