Nah, they are cast. But Caspian seems to be quality so I wouldn’t cross it off your list as an option.

Why not hunt for a used Colt Commander that Billy ‘Bubba’ Jones is selling? Or just get a S80 Colt Commander new and have your 'smith use the little filler parts if having a forged frame is something you want?

Ive noticed better build quality in the past 2 years when comparing them to the S70s made in the late 70s and early 80s. Ive never seen a Pre-S70 so can’t comment…

Order a fitted barrel, slide and frame from Caspian. You can spec it your exact specs.

If you order a Caspian Race Ready frame, don’t forget to add the tactical magwell cut. They just started offerring it when I ordered my frame. I ended up cuting mine out on a mill so I could strip mags in a crisis event. The other thing about the RRF by Caspian is the the magwell width below the bottom of the grip is narrower than full grip width I.e. a S&A magwell. Some smiths silver soldier additional steel on and blend prior to machining the magwell. Some folks don’t like the added length to the grip with a magwell for CC which still leaves a rounded butt Chen mag suite option that adds no length. If they still bitch I call them traditionalist.

CS Series 70-80 is all the same to me, I prefer the angled slide serrations, reg or skip line, fwd and rear please with straightened lines. Colt ser 70 for resale $, which mine will be a keeper so either or…

I wish Caspian did boarder cuts on the slide from factory.

Also, if I end up using Caspian for the build, it’d be a race ready commander, maybe a recon (carbon steel), with tactical mag well cut, and plunger tube slot.
