Looking at plate carriers

I would like some suggestions on plate carriers. Will be used overseas. Something light and not bulky but needs to be durable. Will use hard and soft plates. Looking at crye and london bridge right now havent picked anything yet. Id really appreciate specific models you guys like.

I like the HSGI woosatch and SKD PIG PC. I got the woosatch brand new for sale in Multicam if your interested.

The tyr tactical LWP is a vary nice carrier. I have owned mine now for a year or so and would recommend it, as well as the mayflower APC. They are both good kit.

I purchased a Mayflower for my overseas rig. My needs are likely different than others, since I am a pilot, not a door kicker. I needed something low profile, durable that doesn’t get in the way in the cockpit.

Pretty happy with that decision.

The new Blue Force Gear PlateMinus looks fantastic.

Crye JPC, Mayflower, Blue Force Gear LMAC, and Tyr Tactical PCs are all top notch, lightweight, and relatively slim. Frankly I’d be happy using any of these; pick one with the features you need.

I’ve owned both the Mayflower APC and the PIG carrier. Both are top-notch pieces, but the PIG fits me WAY better. It rides high, and holds plates right where I need them; covering from the notch at the base of my throat down to my diaphragm. I opted for the elastic cummerbund to keep the rig as compact as possible. I reload from my belt, and the carrier rides high enough to accommodate the same.

For reference, I am 5’8" 160# with an athletic build.

I could not be happier with my PIG carrier.

I’ve got a PIG and love it.

However, I have worn a buddies TAG Banshee and was very very impressed. The pig is better but not twice the price better.

If your on a budget id get the banshee.

Shellback Banshee from SKD Tactical. Awesome place tobuy good kit. Carrier fits my plates awesome with its “shooters cut” nylon panel shape. Stitching, placement of straps, materials, adjustibility, all are excellent and for $127. Twenty-nine reviews on SKD with all stars.

 I’m happy

The Ares Armor Aspis is pretty damn good too for the price.

God thatd be nice wouldnt it? Id do that if I could get away with it but I gotta carry shit on my sides and wearing it all the time so she needs to be more durable.

Might go check out some london bridge stuff this weekend liking the 6904.

EDIT- anybody have this one? looks low profile yet has enough room.

The Blue Force Gear LMAC offers the cummerbun if that’s what you want. Tyr makes good stuff too.

The only LBT’s I’ve handled have been slick ones, but they’re certainly a high quality option like the others.

Cool, thanks for the link!

i really want an >armor carrier< that accepts both soft armor and plates. However I refuse to pay $300+ for just a CARRIER.

I really like my Mayflower APC. Low profile and built stoutly. Comfortable for a carrier (as comfortable as they can get anyways).

Been lurking for a few so pardon me.

Quite honestly from my experience over the past couple years has been weighing over to Mayflower R/C. Here are a few reasons, all kit is manufactured here in the states. Secondly every piece of kit is developed by veterans that identified a need for the operator that may utilize said piece of kit. Every piece of kit from MRC that I have owned and others on team etc have upheld some true beatings. The quality is nothing short of top shelf! They stand behind their product 110%, no questions asked. Lastly, dealing w/the guys of MRC has been a pleasure and they have gone the extra mile to help when needed.

+1 for Mayflower Research & Consulting.

Keep in mind, your rig must fit your mission and you the end user in order to function adequately. Just my $.05.

Wow good price range. I’m new to this, was wondering where to get the plates?
thanks

You should probably have asked, “who is using what overseas and why do you love it/hate it”.

No offense to all the people that posted, but I don’t take advice from people who haven’t deployed recently to a combat zone, with the kit, and used it off the FOB. I tried it before and wasted a lot of money.

I’m currently wearing a Crye JPC daily (size M). I can’t say enough good things about it.

In addition to using the 3 integrated AR mag pouches (which are awesome), I have a MARZ shorty-AR pouch, a tourniquet, and a Tactical Tailor Fightlight Frag Pouch on it.
On the back I have a Tactical Tailor PRC-148 pouch, soon to be replaced with a 152 pouch, also from TT.
It the integrated pistol/admin pouch up top/front I have a vacuum package of QuikClot Gauze.

For armor I have medium Velocity Systems VS PBZ plates and the Dynema plate backers.

The carrier is maybe 1/4" undersized, but there is enough velcro overlap to keep everything packaged up nicely. The insides of plate pockets stretch and conform to the armor keeping it secure.

EDIT: Although manufacturers are bias to their products, they do get a lot of feedback. Doesn’t hurt to go direct to the source to see if their product will address your needs.

Sorry if I come across like a dick, but logic wins.

i second the ARES ARMOR ASPIS… great PC

very comfortable and versatile.

Which is exactly why I posted what I did above. I agree entirely with your sentiment.

To make it a bit clearer:

I use my rig (Mayflower) overseas (Afghanistan) in my contractor job as a helicopter pilot.

If my use mirrors yours, than my input (posted above) has value. If you are doing a different job than me, my input may not have any value to you.
