I picked this little gem up today at a local shop. I’ve been on the prowl for a used Glock 19 for about a month now, but nowhere in town ever has them! But last night I found one, and picked it up today.

While it was sold as used, there isn’t any evidence of it! I would have attributed all the ‘wear’ to a test firing if I hadn’t been told otherwise. Certainly this was a steal at the price I got. Came with the box, three factory mags, and a grip plug. When I inspected it upon purchase, however, I noticed something that was unlike my past Glocks…

It’s a steel guide rod, not the polymer ones I’m used to. This appears to be aftermarket to me. On the screw at the distal piece it is marked “YES”. Anyone know what kind of spring this is? Is it trustworthy or should I seek a replacement?

Fantastic buy. I’ve been so close to getting a G19 on so many occasions recently, but I keep telling myself I want to wait to see the Gen4 version first…

I for one have never had an issue with the factory plastic guide rod.

I would replace it with a factory part. They are not too expensive.

It looks like an ISMI spring on a Lone Wolf guide rod. I would replace it with a standard unit and keep that one as a backup.

I’ve come to find that all the 9mm Glocks need are the OEM parts. I’m not into all of the aftermarket parts except sights and a Vickers mag release. I would just replace it with a standard stock recoil assembly.

Thanks guys, I do believe I agree. I’ll hunt around tomorrow to see if anyone has a Glock guide rod.

I’ve been drying firing this thing a lot, and this trigger feels heavy as hell. Given the other ‘upgrades’, I’d believe it if someone told me the previous owner dropped an NY trigger in or something. Is there an easy way to tell visually? I’ll probably take it to my shop tomorrow to compare it to a stock Glock to help tell.

Take the slide off and look at the trigger spring. Is it a spring or is there some strange looking olive drab plastic thing in there? Look at the connector and see if it has a minus “-” stamped on it too.

Spring is a standard-looking spring, nothing plastic or green that I can see. I don’t see a minus on the connector (unless it’s facing the frame and hidden from view).

Order an OEM recoil spring from Brownells or Lone Wolf, clean it, lube it, then shoot the piss out of it.

In addition I’d run the guide rod that came with it until you can find an OEM one. You’ll need a Vickers Mag Release too.

Thanks guys, I’ll be hunting for OEM. So is the Vickers long enough to really make a difference on reloads without getting in the way?

The Vickers mag catch is longer than the standard Glock length but shorter than the Glock extend mag catch…it’s in between. It also has the corners and edges rounded off. It’s the very first thing I put on my Glocks.
