I finished my SPR-ish build last weekend and have had it out twice. A rifle capable of longer range precision was my goal and the results are pretty good so far. A 700 Meter AR is stretching things some - with me on the trigger anyway - but hits are certainly possible at that distance.
It’s a Rainer XTC compensator, my second. The UBR helps with the balance, but it actually balances better with my 16" N4 Light Reece - the 18" SS barrel puts more weight out front.
The bi-pod is an Atlas which I really like (except for the cost).
That is a really nice build. What length is the gas system? I am building an 18" with a midlength system and these pictures are making me consider leaning more toward longer range from the multipurpose rifle I am building.
gfelber is correct - Intermediate length gas on the Noveske SPR. ETA - “Intermediate” is 1.5" shorter than rifle length gas. The 13" VTAC rail covers the gas block with a little under an inch to spare.
The rifle - sans scope, scope base and bi-pod weights right at 8 Lbs - on a fishing scale of dubious accuracy. Add another 26 oz for the NF scope and LaRue SPR base as measured on my trigger pull gauge.
Out of the box, the Geissele SSA broke at around 4.5 Lbs. I tweaked the hammer spring and it’s now at 3.75 lbs (2 Lbs on the 1st stage plus 1.75 on the second stage). I actually think it’s the equal to the Geissele DMR I have in another rifle which breaks at about the same weight.
Nice rifle! I’m assembling nearly the same thing except for the rail and upper receiver. How long did it take to get the bipod? Mine’s been on backorder forever.
No problem. I went with the standard factory QD rail mount for the Atlas since it was available. Probably not up to the LaRue attachment, but it’s working just fine. (Plus I did not have to order from two places.)
FYI - I re-posted the pics in post #1 with some taken this morning in better light. The detail on the bi-pod as well as the LaRue 30mm SPR mount is much better.
