Local (to me) school district arms teachers.

Teachers in the Seagraves Texas ISD who hold CHLs can now carry on campus to protect students, thoughts? Sounds like a good plan. Most locals are on board, but every town has it’s share of libs.
Let us try and keep the discussion clean please.

Smart policy. Smart sign. While such events are thankfully extremely rare-- you are still lowering your odds of being the cherry picked target. don’t have to be the fastest gazelle, just faster than the slowest.

I believe this is a deterrent to someone who is considering targeting a school and agree with the policy.

Has the school district instructed teachers on how to react when LEO arrive at a school in response to a report of an active shooter or other potentially violent call?

Im not too sure, as they just introduced the policy, apart from their CHL class, the district does require additional training, that I do know, not sure what training it is though. This is a rather small town <5000, but at least they have set the foot down.

As a LEO firearms and Rapid Deployment instructor, I agree with the policy of allowing a teacher who holds a valid concealed carry license to have a firearm available to protect students.

A clear set of guidelines for a teacher’s interaction with law enforcement at the scene of an incident is highly recommended.

Comms are key, if the district has school police, I think it would be a good idea for the officers to at least get to know the teachers. One idea that sounds good to me is: drop the threat, quickly confirm all threats are down, re holster weapon, call the police. that way when they arrive, there is no gun in their hand, so they (teacher) would not be considered a threat to an un knowing responding officer. Sounds good on paper, but hey! anything can happen in high stress situations.

And if there’s never an incident there, the policy will somehow not be regarded by the grabbers as a success… Just that somehow there was a miraculous avoidance of one of the pistols jumping from its holster of its own accord and going on a rampage.

I agree with it and I am glad that they have allowed this.

On the other hand…

In Arizona of all places. So an armed police officer in UNIFORM drops his kid off at school and is apparently too scary?

Get ****ing real people, I’d be happy to have him at my kids school. But the school administration is apparently back pedaling right now with the outcry over this.

Had to be a faux news report, my local district has considered arming the teachers too, but it hasnt gathered much steam since we have a rather good district police force, and even our own school police SWAT, most campuses have at least 2 armed officers, they always carry their glocks and in the patrol cars they carry 870s and ARs

School administrators opposed to an armed police officer on campus need to be removed. If they were in my area, I would raise hell about this and ask that they be fired from their jobs.

As usual progressives will be the downfall of this once great nation…

Excellent news. Let us hope this sets a precedent.

Contrasting that… Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. School asks police officer not to wear uniform on campus. They want to defang the one dude who’s rolling hot, legally, and can actually help them on their worst day ever if he’s present. Absolutely can not fathom who would think this is a good idea, in Arizona no less.

He’s not the type of armed man on campus you’d expect parents to be concerned about – but apparently a police officer dropping off his daughter at school was just too scary for some parents in Mesa.

And the school principal actually called that officer to ask him not to wear his uniform on campus ever again.

The issue was that other parents were concerned because he had a gun.

The officer, who works for the Coolidge Police Department, is a parent of a kid that goes to Entz Elementary School in Mesa.

The request made by school officials to not wear his uniform and gun on campus shocked and upset a lot of people…

My kid would be switching schools.

The response by school officials to an officer carrying a firearm at a school is unbelievable. We have to beat these short dicks at their own game. If you want to play the LIBERAL game and throw it back in their face, you say “it’s for the children”.

I wonder how they would respond to that one? It is for the children…

I’m seriously perplexed at the type of decision making skills demonstrated by the school faculty. Like lambs to the slaughter.

It shouldn’t be a novelty for teachers to be armed, it should be a requirement. It establishes that:

A. They pass a background check

B. Have a firm belief in the value of human life and the need to protect it

C. Are grounded in the reality that the world is not perfect and human nature not perfectable (i.e. NOT the liberal worldview)

D. Understand cause and effect, preparation, self reliance, problem solving, and diligence (i.e. NOT the liberal worldview)

E. Are not in lock step with left leaning unions et al. who are driving the cost up of schools (dissolving the current collusion)

F. Stand as examples of traditional America for kids to emulate rather than the tofu eating psuedo-America from CA, NYC, etc.

I get where you’re coming from but it’s simply unrealistic. I have at least 1/2 dozen friends I know who are teachers and all of them are very soft. These girls grew up in Upstate NY, still live & teach there, and would never be comfortable carrying a gun. They’re not anti-gun, know I carry, and aren’t scared of them but they would never strap on a gun everyday, never. I don’t think they’re much of an anomaly inside the public school system.

I know Utah’s university system lets students CCW. Not sure about anybody else but I think it’s a great option for people.
