LMT MWSE - Heavy Carbine

Excellent report Andy…thanks for sharing:)

Appears that the barrel work didn’t hamper the accuracy at all. I’d be really pleased with those results.

Shed weight + OAL while maintaining accuracy…win, win!

What is the new weight?

Why dimple vs. re-profile?

Dimpling removes less material and creates less stress on the barrel , increases the surface area for cooling. As for getting the 18 inch, the rifle length gas system really helps smooth out the rifle vs the 16inch with a carbine.

They have started to do it on F1 wheels too to increase cooling.

Is running a 16" w/ rifle-length gas ideal? I am certain that for 5.56 it is not.

Not sure of that either. The 18" barrel I have is a great deal smoother than my 16"

There are several people over at Snipers Hide who have also had great results with this set up on their MWS’s. KAC has also had great success running that setup on SR-25’s. Yes this type setup does not work on 5.56 gun. The ECC , ECM , M110K are all setup that way. My MWS is way over gassed with the 16inch CL. I have an 18 on order.

Good info. Do you have any links to reports on 16" w/ rifle-length gas?

Also, do they make a chrome-lined 18" ?

Buckjay is a member on here and the hide, this is his setup. As for reports, everyone who runs this setup on their EMC ECC guns says its great and smooth. No LMT does not make CL 18inch.

VooDoo6 , I think Scooter was really asking for a range report on someone who cut down their 18inch SS to make 14 with rifle length gas system on the mws.

VooDoo6 , thank you for posting that info. I think Scooter was really asking for a range report on someone who cut down their 18inch SS to make 16inch with rifle length gas system on the mws.

dupe reply from me

Finally shot paper @ 200 yards. Steiner 3-12X56, set at 12X. Shooting from bench off harris bipod and rear bag. Ammo FGMM 175gr:

I also tried Hornady steel match 155gr. This ammo was “all over” at 200 yards, and I didn’t bother measuring its group size.

Look carefully at the location of my gas block here ==>> https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?80781-LMT-308-MWS-Pictures-show-us-your-setup&p=1791633#post1791633
16" CL with rifle length gas, soft shooter, reliable, and once my Atlas comes in I’ll have a better shot at some good groups.

Would installing a syrac gas block on a 16" CL barrel and down-tuning the gas port work? Can it even be installed?

Who has Marvin Pitts contact info?

Email him: Nefariousarms@live.com

For the tip, just remember any finished work he does…you send my way for a quick T/E:) Hope you get something done from him for the MWS, the thought makes me drool.

I haven’t even received my MWS yet and I’m considering the ball mill…

Anyone have an idea of what that would cost?

I’m assuming by ‘ball milling’ you mean dimpling.

ADCO lists Under the Hanguard for $125, and Forward of FSB for $115.

I’m guessing Marvin Pitts charges around the same?
