Couple of well-priced Acogs veered me off the game plan for optics. I enjoy shooting with Acogs more, but will probably pick up a T1 at some point too.
Here are the lowers for now…an I’m actually expecting the uppers within the next few weeks which is great news for me!

Can’t go wrong with those optics! I’ve got the T1 on my soon to be SBR LMT MRP, and the TA33h-g on my SS MRP rifle length. I love my MRP’s!
Coming along…slowly…but surely! Dimpled 11.5" barrels are on their way back from Marvin…but will have to reside elsewhere until SBR paperwork is approved 
What coating is on the FDE one? Looks good…I’ve been thinking about painting mine just because I get tired of black. I have some Alumahyde II here that I’m thinking about using.
It’s flat-dark-earth Cerakote.
I’m using it as a base layer, as I plan to add some OD green and dark brown on top, in some sort of basic camo pattern that has yet to be determined. I don’t like too complex of patterns, so I’m going to try to keep it fairly simple.

Do those 11.5" barrels work? Chopped to 12.5 they seem to do fine.
The MRP has a 45 degree gas port, so re-sizing could be problematic w/o a proper jig.

I’m interested as well. I’ve got some 10.5s but would love to upsize an inch or two. I saw that Marvin Pitts had done an 11.5" for someone a while back and specifically mentioned that it had been ported correctly but I don’t know exactly what he meant.

This was a 14.5" carbine-length gas barrel before Marvin cut it to 11.5"…So nothing about the gas block/port has been modified or moved around.
What this does mean though, is that I’m gonna be a bit choked off on gas, which is why I’m running the LMT enhanced carrier and Vltor A5 assembly…starting with the lightest A5 buffers, and slowly moving up as long as the rifles function reliably with and without my suppressor.
I’m going to the range as soon as possible to function test the rifles with a few different types of ammo, from weaker .223 to full-power 5.56. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed and hope I still have enough gas to run these reliably with a range of ammo.
Out of curiosity is there a reason why you didn’t open the port some to make it more in line with the correct size for that barrel length?
I assume that since it was an LMT 14.5" that the port was around .063 (or is it larger for the MRP)?
It would also think that the enhanced carrier would actually be detrimental to the gas unless you are running them suppressed.
I became very interested in Grant’s suppressed-SBR thread a few years back, and wanted to try the concept out myself. He was able to reliably achieve lower-recoiling, cleaner running rifles using 10.5" and 11.5" under-ported Noveske barrels in conjunction with the LMT enhanced carrier, H2/H3 buffers, with and without the use of a suppressor.
From my understanding, the Noveske barrels were ported to the same dimensions as the Switchblock’s “Suppressed” setting. Even though I cut back my 14.5" barrel without opening the port…it should still be larger and generate more gas pressure than the Noveske barrels he used on his rifles.
It also appeared that he was unable to achieve reliable operation with standard bolt carriers, and it wasn’t until he switched the standard carrier for an enhanced carrier, that he was able to finally achieve reliable operation of the rifles. The theory on the enhanced carrier is that the modified cam-pin track increases dwell-time by slowing down the bolt unlocking process, makes for easier extraction.
I didn’t want to walk so close to the line on lower-gas vs reliable function as Grant did. He achieved reliable operation with his rifles using these ideas, but I wanted to have more leeway, which I think I’ll have by using a larger gas port than he did, and utilizing the benefits of the Vltor A5 (starting with their lightest buffer), which was not used on his rifles. I will be running these rifles suppressed much of the time as well.
These theories may very well not work in my application with these rifles, but if I can’t get them to run reliably suppressed and un-suppressed with a range of ammo…Then I’ll send my barrels to Marvin and have him open the ports. I’m going to test them out this weekend and report back Monday in case anyone is curious.
OK. I am tracking with what you are saying. I was also unaware of the differences in the port sizes when using Switchblock barrels. Its good to see someone mix stuff up and try different configurations. As long as you achieve reliability that’s all that matters.
I talked to LMT a few days ago and the tech said plainly that unless I am running a 14.5" carbine gas system in adverse environments on auto than I wasted my money on the enhanced carrier. I think he overstated the point that the enhanced carrier was intended to treat the symptoms of an over gassed gun, but there are too many credible reports of people achieving reliable recoil reduction (or even reliability at all) using the enhanced carrier to take his statements at face value.
Are the top coat colors Cerakote as well? It looks awesome!
