So I was wondering with all of these new 7.62 rifles coming out and none of them are available to buy today with out being on a waiting list for months to a year why not buy the POF? Is there anything wrong with them? Advantages to the new rifles coming out?
Out of all the 7.62 AR platform rifles out or on their way, the only one that has produced amazing accuracy time after time is POF. It has also had a number of problems. If you get a POF that shoots, it’s going to be a winner and a keeper.
The new REPR from LWRC is a really nice one too but it has not produced the accuracy to match POF and it’s above 3K.
You have to be shitting me. The Larue OBR has turned in groups in the threes and is routinely agging under 1 MOA. The test target with mine was 0.560". What are you considering amazing accuracy? Consistently under 1 MOA and groups in the threes is pretty amazing for a 308 gas gun.
Why? It’s cheaper, and it beat the competition when the UK tested it against other .308 AR’s including the piston driven HK and I can’t imagine the HK was anything approaching unreliable. MSRP is 2500, actual price will be lower, and they’re probably going to crank them out like they need the money. Their customer service is great.
The accuracy of the POF has never been a question. It will shoot 1/2" three’s and fives all day long. The OBR has a long wait as do all the others mentioned by the originator. I am on the list for the OBR’s as are many others because Larue’s reputation is second to none. I don’t doubt that it is a shooter but you have to wait for it.
There is nothing wrong with the POF as long as it shoots out of the box. That is it’s only drawback in my opinion.
This post implies that only the POF has produced “amazing” accuracy.
Are you backing away from that in this post? There are plenty of results posted on TOS and Lightfighter with great OBR groups. Knight’s reputation is without question.
I am planning on getting an LMT .308 MRP when they become available. Waiting doesn’t bother me much because I need the time anyway to save up some cash. The reason I am going with the LMT is due to the slightly lower cost, and the barrel change option. I would like to get an 18" barrel in the future and use the LMT as a dmr type rifle, but for now the 16" will do fine. Another reason I am going with the LMT is they won out as the new british DMR rifle, in my opinion that says something about the quality. Another idea I tossed around is a Scar H, but to me the LMT wins out for the price.
There is an empty space in my safe for the new LMT, I own a LMT M4 that is a great rifle. KAC makes great stuff and a SR-25 would be a great addition to my collection, however like everything that KAC makes, it is way too spendy for me. I was lucky enough to play with a POF P308-16-Recon at Cabella’s last week, but I really didn’t like its looks or feel (the NP3 plating looked gaudy and the rail is very bulky).
wow, goes to show I have expensive taste! I guess the best things in life aren’t cheap!!! That just made the others that are selling for over MSRP seem cheap LOL
Not all POF are shooting great out of the box. My dealer is a local LEO, and he ordered a 20" POF 308 for one of their snipers and he could not get better than 1.5 MOA with it. It ran without malfunction, but would not group well. From what I have been reading and hearing from people that own them, it seems their quality control is falling off.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of shooting my JP LRP-07 for the first time with 10-15 mph crosswinds in 40 degree weather the other day.
I picked up some Winchester 147 gr fmj, Federal 168 and 175 gr smkbthp to shoot and I didn’t have much time.
The Winchester was 1.75", the Federal 168 was 1" and the 175 was 0.75" with two 5 shot groups for each. I was shooting from a bench with a plastic support under the rail and just held the stock in my shoulder (I realize this is not an accurate assessment of accuracy), but I did learn that my rifle shoots MUCH better with heavier bullets (which was my intent to learn before my next bulk ammo purchase for what it seems to shoot the best).
My guess is that by trying different match grade ammo and doing all the right things (unlike my first range trip) is that any of the rifles mentioned above would be able to produce 1 MOA accuracy. I was surprised to hear that a sniper could not get 1 MOA from one of these rifles. I bet if you send it back, they will get you a 1 MOA rifle. There is simply too much competition with other good products and you are paying a premium for all of these rifles.
