Got this email today and thought I’d post a thread to get everyone’s thoughts. LMT just launched a new stock, similar to the Magpul PRS, but fits on carbine receiver extensions. This is incredibly welcome news for me, as I’ve always wanted to use a Magpul PRS without having to swap to a rifle tube. My only question is, will it work on A5 REs?
Lewis Machine & Tool Company (LMT®), an Illinois based company that designs, prototypes and manufactures small arms, accessories and tooling components for the military, government, law enforcement, commercial manufacturers and responsible civilians is proud to release their newest accessory for the Designated Marksman.
The DMR buttstock offers the user customization that the designated marksman requires by including features already known on the LMT SOPMOD. This DMR buttstock fits Mil-Spec carbine extension tube rifles in both the 5.56 and .308 platforms. This newest accessory includes 0.725” adjustable SOPMOD style cheek rest height, 1.25” adjustable length of pull with SOPMOD buttpad for reduced felt recoil and a concealed Mil-Std 1913 STANAG 4694 compliant rail for mono-pod attachment.
I think it looks really good and filled a hole in the market that at least I’ve been looking to plug.
I am in agreement. Unless the LMT version is significantly cheaper than Magpul’s offering I don’t seem much use past the niche point. That said, if it is cheaper I could see some people going with this for cost reasons.
Good point. I’d bet it has the chopped cheek-weld, though, to compensate for the AR-10 charging handle’s added length. Hmmm, I guess I’ll just email LMT.
After tinkering with the DMR762 stock I have found that it does not fully collapse on either a standard 7 position A5 receiver extension or the 6 position A5SR/AR10 receiver extension. While the internal dimensions and overall length of both A5 tubes are the same as the LMT MWS receiver extension, the rail part of the MWS RE, with notches for stock adjustment, are shifted forward maybe 1/4". Or conversely, the A5 tubes adjustment notches are shifted rearward 1/4". I am still trying to figure this out but I think the DMR stock bottoms out on the back of the A5 RE while still in between adjustment notches. BUT ALSO, the really confusing part, is the front of the stock does not fully reach the end plate and castle nut when in its forward most position. Not sure how this can be if the A5 and MWS tubes are same overall length but the DMR762 will not fully collapse on either A5 tube and is not locked in a notch when it is in its forward most position.
The stock works beautifully on an MWS though! And to be fair it still works on A5 tubes, just don’t expect full collapsibility.
I also tried on he MWS RE a Colt CAR stock that normally rides on the A5SR/AR10 6 position RE where it sits flush with the end of the tube when collapsed to notch 1. The MWS tube poked out the back of the stock about 1/4". More like is the case when you put a carbine length, open-backed stock on a standard 7 position A5 tube. This illustrates for me the difference in the adjustment notch placements of the MWS RE and the A5 RE tubes.
I think if one desired full collapsibility of the DMR762 stock with use of A5 buffers and rifle spring on an AR15, the way to do it is to order the LMT DMR762 stock with a spare MWS receiver extension. Bummer, but possible.
I am still trying to figure how the DMR556 stock differs dimensionally from the DMR762.
If it’s anything like a PRS (and it appears to be) the cheek piece on the 7.62 model is shorter to allow for charging handle travel. That could be the case?
