My LMT BUIS has arrived. how tight should I lock it to my upper rails? will it matter if it’s too tight? or too loose?
I don’t know if there’s a torque spec on it or not. I do know that the one on my 10.5 LMT has never come loose and I used a properly sized bit and some Gorilla twist.
It should be tight enough that you can undo the lever and remove it with your hands (no tools) but tight enough that you shouldn’t be able to move the body of the sight if you try to when the lever is locked down.
Why not loctite it. I have one on the way and was planning on doing that. Any reason not to?
You want to Loc-Tite a throw lever ?
I thought the LMT rear sight used a thumb screw?

Loctite + Quarter = Tight LMT BUIS.
You don’t have to get it stupid tight.
ETA: Hey M4, where ya gettin’ those prototype LMT BUIS w/throw levers?? I want one…

sqeaks??
I have the same sights. I tightened them as hard as my fingers would allow. I just finished reading Patrick Sweenys AR gunsmith book and he had a paragraph on the LMT BUIS and said if mounted properly they should not be able to come off using finger strength alone… Unfortunately he did not mention the “proper way”… Mine have not come loose in 6 months and 500 rounds. If they do i will use tools or… Who knows. Maybe light locktite or fingernail polish. Probably just eat some wheaties and turn it harder. I can’t see a good reason to take them off ever unless to change which i can’t see doing that.
If you’re super worried just make witness marks with a paint pen or something.
Mine is hand tight. It’ll not come off without much effort.
I used a coin to tighten it the last time…
after more than a year… so far… it hasn’t loosened.
