LMT bolt carrier chrome flaking off

I wanted to run this by you guys first before I bothered the nice folks at LMT. I whent out to shoot my MWS for the 2nd time, for a total of 80 rounds through it. Functioned flawlessly and very accurate even for a novice like me. When I got home I striped it for cleaning. When I removed the bolt from the carrier I immediately saw flakes falling from the bolt carrier. I took a snap shot of some of it that fell on the card board. I also took a pic of the inside of the bolt carrier were you can see the crhome flaked from. Not sure if this is normal to the MWS, I know its not for my AR15’s, which include a 6920 and a bushy. Should I be calling LMT?

By the way the only chemicals I have used for cleaning are, the break free bore foam, some powder blast, and for lube only slip 2000. Again I dont think this is the problem since I use the same chemicals for my other ARs with no problem

The last pic shows what chrome fell out of the carrier

I didn’t need any more proof that LMT is the next Bushmaster, but thanks!

I wouldn’t touch anything coming from LMT at this point.

Recommend to call LMT for guidance. That is NOT normal at all.

Well, thanks very much gents, I dint think it was normal either. But I know my self very well and know I can be a bit OCD with my things, so I figure I check first before calling LMT. will give them a call tomorrow.

I knew I had read about this somewhere else happening, found it on TOS.

From the poster:

I called LMT, and as I was explaining the problem, the rep stopped me and said, “sir, I’m so sorry…you’ve already told me more than I need to know…this is the third one today.” They do not apply that coating to the BC, and it appears that there was a foreign substance present when some were dipped. I’m sending the bcg back to them today. It wasn’t affecting function, but for this kind of $$$$ it needs to be totally right.

Anyone else having this problem?

Sounds like a batch got coated bad by a subcontractor. LMT seems to be taking care of it.

Since I got the triger woble, some nasty tool marks on the inside of the upper, and this chrome flaking thing, you guys think it would be too much to ask out of LMT to just replace the whole thing?

If you are having problems that aren’t normal and you are dissaatisfied-contact them and arrange to have it corrected.

As stated on other issues with whoever-all have occasional problems and contacting them first is the correct procedure.

I’ll leave this open for the time being–no sillyness:nono:

Contact LMT, they have great customer service. It is a purely cosmetic issue, not a safety issue. I think I would have done that the 1st time I noticed the problem ratrher than flaming them online.

Do you own a LMT product? I own several and they make high quality MilSpec rifles.

Any marks on the carrier that might indicate a sub supplier? If you could find one it would help those that might have gotten a bolt carrier manufactured at the same sub supplier keep an eye out for it.

If it was just the coating supplier, it probably doesn’t have an special machining marks.

Please keep us updated on your progress.
