…
I don’t like to speak before I know for certain.
I do know, first hand, that Rainier Arms has installed them in Mega Arms and their own Rainier Arms 308s. Haven’t seen one fired. Take from that what you will.
Tomorrow morning I’ll call Gene at LMT and ask.
I know Ayan at BoltCarrier.com had one and was playing around with it. He might be able to fill in some details and observations.
Disclaimer: If I am wrong someone please correct me.
I’ve had the SR-25 bug for a while now. For a few years. I came in to an original SR-25 at a good price. The long halberd sized one. 1994 vintage. I got my ECC last fall. And two years ago I got a Vero Beach kit that is 60% done. Money and time are my only limitations as I have the core parts to do a possibly bastardized carbine.
Getting a factory KAC bcg is really, really hard. I refuse to use DPMS/JP even though I was told they would work. Im desperation I briefly entertained a WMD(?) Bcg but…they seemed shady. Just as a fluke I too browsed LMT.
LMT makes legit stuff. I saw the BCG. Knowing that the MWS and KAC are like first cousins and people have popped MWS uppers on a Pre Ban SR lower…I call LMT. They tell me it should work.
I called KAC and one of their Tech Support fungineers tell me it is good to go.
In a highly unscientific test I pop it into my ECC and…
.it fits okay. Rack it a few times. Too paranoid and hypochondriac to shoot it for fear of voiding my warranty. I used to think HKs were spendy. Ha. How quaint. But mid life crisis and I don’t care about cars so…anyways.
Everyone has told me it is good for my build project. There ARE minor differences but nothing deal breaking.
I’m learning the hard way that this isn’t like cobbling together a 5.56 AR. Lots of proprietary parts and shattered preconceived notions.
Good luck.
Who did you speak with at KAC?

F2S,
I am sorry I don’t know who exactly. When I got to the operator I asked for tech support and spoke to a Steve (?) I think.
LMT told me it would work. Both companies told me to ask the other and then both gave me the same answer. This was August 2014 that I bought the BCG. My plan is to send it to a KAC armorer for assembly.
Will it not work? Thanks for any help. If it is a no-go what else could I use?
I don’t have any data either way. The external dimensions should be ok, but without testing I cannot confirm function.

I just got a call back from Gene at LMT. Apparently they’ve been asked a handful of times, but “there is no answer.”. He stated some people have had luck using it in a dpms profile barrel, while others have had issues.
So this is still up in the air until someone does their own measurements and throws one in their rifle to see how it functions.
Hmm…the lady at LMT said it would no problem. I volunteer myself as tribute once I get my build assembled. Not going to mess up my ECC in the (arguably remote) chance of a catastrophic failure. I’m pretty close but it will be maybe summer until I get the remaining parts and assembly.
While there are differences, they do not appear drastic. People in communist states have used LMT uppers on older legacy SR25 lowers. I know that doesn’t “prove” anything but as a layperson, the dimensions of an LMT upper receiver don’t seem much different if at all from the KAC. While I didn’t fire it…it fit without friction or anything in my legacy EMR and my ECC.
Not much real answers now but once I get this build done, expect a post and pictures. Right now it is just parts. I’ve had everyone tell me yes or “I don’t see why not” and no one tell me no.
I don’t know but would presume that most people having a snag are using off list or less than ideal upper receivers. I’ve been soured to anything DPMS and don’t put much faith in them.
I don’t think there are that many SR25 kits floating around and chanced into one around 2012/2013. And in just basic research most people either lucked into an odd KAC bolt carrier or made do with a DPMS BCG. Their rifles, according to them, work.
This will honestly be the last time I attempt a build like this.
