I have a new ar15 barrel in .223 caliber. It work good and shot well, but i have a problem.
When a live ammo is in the barrel, and i want to open the bolt, i cant do it. The charging handle is stucked and i have to use a plastic hammer or slap the buttstock on the griund while i pull the charging handle, to ppen the bolt and unload the rifle.
I think my chamber is a bit tight so im thinking to buy a reamer to correct it.
It could be right?

It sounds like a burr or something in the chamber. You can use a green pad (cleaning) and attach it to a cleaning rod and run it in the chamber for about 30 seconds or so. That will polish it and sometime remove little imperfections.

What ammo? Remanufactured or Reloads?
We’ve seen a lot of improperly sized brass in reloads here lately that result in this exact condition.
Barnaul, Tula ammo and some Fiocchi varmint tip
Does it happen with all of the ammo you use or only a particular brand? If so which brand? Brass or steel case?
I tried Tula and Barnaul( steel case) and Fiocchi Varmin Tip ( brass case). And both have problems.

Give the chamber a good cleaning.
I have about 1050 rounds thru my AR, about 500 rounds of steel. I’ve had this happen twice, both times with steel. Both times, the gun failed to go into battery. Maybe 3/8 inch from going into battery. Mortaring the round out by hitting the stock on the ground while pulling the charging handle fixed it. Both bullets had small scratches in them and were still seated properly in the case. Neither case had any markings on them. Put them back in the mag, and they worked fine. First time the chamber was quite dirty. Second time was first time shooting after cleaning the chamber, so clean chamber second time.
I have measured the outside diameter and wall thickness of spent brass and steel casings, and there really seems to be no difference between the two.
I had around 600 rounds thru it, half brass and half steel before it ever happened. It’s only happen when shooting steel, so I’ve decided to live with it.
Here is the thread I started when I had the problem. It’s 3 pages long with a good discussion, but closed at my request, so can’t be commented on.
yeah give it a good cleaning. Maybe try different kind of ammo?
