Picked up a Remmington 870 the other day for my tac 3 gun competitions. Performed very nicely. We do a lot of single loading (especially with slugs) so as not to hit the steel with anything other than bird shot. I found i wasn’t impressed with my bead sight. So I picked up a TRU GLO fat bead fiber optic sight to replace it with. Can anyone recommend a fail safe way to remove the bead and install the new optic?
If it’s an 870 Express, the bead is just tack welded on and should pop off with a pair of pliers. You’ll need to have the hole tapped to install your aftermarket sight.
If it’s an 870 Wingmaster, then the front sight SHOULD be screwed into the barrel, but I don’t recall.
Either way, I’d probably take it to a qualified gunsmith for inspection and some advice.
Midway USA or Brownells had a good step by step on the process in their tech tips section. Pretty sure it was Midway.
I couldn’t locate it on either. Suggestions on keywords to search?
