I am only days away from pulling the trigger on a DD upper from Smartgunner.com. You simply can’t beat the price. I was totally sold on a KAC SR-15 IWS, but then I took some close looks at 2 different guns and changed my mind (I have discussed my concerns with KAC, and their customer service is top notch, but for 1/2 the price I can get exactly what I want without making changes. Still not sold on the proprietary parts either)
Anyway, I wanted to get a DD upper to closely replicate the handling feel of the SR-15. With that in mind, I chose the 16" mid-length with 12" OmegaX. Where I’m struggling is the barrel profile. To mimic the feel of the SR-15, the lightweight seems to be the way to go. However, I will be using a 19 oz Can at times, and am concerned about droop/POI shift with the lightweight barrel. Then again, a Gov’t profile doesn’t seem to be much better as it’s the same weight at the receiver and only thicker at the muzzle, thus adding even more weight to that of the suppressor and increasing the lever effect. I’ve searched and read all I can find on the subject for the last 2 days, and haven’t found a definitive answer. This rifle will wear a TA-11 and will serve a general purpose/RECCE type role; however, I will use it for training classes and carbine matches as well from time to time (This is where I begin to worry more about droop).
Am I over-thinking or are there valid concerns?
Thank you!
