What are people experiencing with tubes like the Troy and the VTAC FF tubes with no rail panels on them. Do they get pretty hot after a hundred rounds or so? How is the heat dissipation? I guess the rail panels on a picattiny ff might trap some of the heat in, but they make it more bearable to shoot without gloves it would seem.
what weapon are you thinking of putting it on?
they can definitely get warm on shot-hot guns. you wouldn’t want to sport one at a PNW event, i dont think. not unless you had some thick gloves. but they’re great for short string competition, bench, DMR-type guns, etc- shit you aren’t gonna put 300 rounds through in 5 minutes.
i’ve got one sitting in front of me right now that i pulled off a target gun, that’ll be going on my new huntin’ stick. should be great for that.
Yeah they get hot. Note the VTAC training drills, they almost always wear gloves while shooting. They seem to dissipate heat as well as my lite rails/ omegas but the added layer of plastic on the rails does a lot to insulate you from the heat. Not something to take for granted. I find that shooting with an AFG can make sustained shooting a little more comfortable, but you’ll still need gloves eventually. Meet up with me at WCA some time and shoot my LW upper and you’ll see for yourself.
How many rounds in what kind of time frame before it becomes painful?

I have been looking at these kinds of rails as they seem pretty nice, but I don’t like the idea of needing gloves if they are that prone to heating up quick. The rail I am using right now (DD Omega) works fine when running the gun pretty hot, and I will stick with that type with the ladder panels in the future if they insulate that much better.
I’ve answered this before:
Thanks.

I run the TROY TRX Extremem rails and have no issues. Then again, I shoot with gloves on.
If you do not shoot with Gloves on, you might want to rethink this idea. ![]()
