Is there a 1/7 or 1/8 twist barrel which is 20 inches in length that could be used for a long range shooter that is the same weight as the A1 upper? Any barreled uppers that are already there that I could use. I have a middy, a M4gery, and a lightweight DD 14.5 would like to get a A4 but as be it as light as it can be just thinking of the concept because I loved my AR15A1 but gave him the upper since his DPMS had issues and mine was well Colt. Could use another but would like the best weight.
Would add a Vltor A5 stock to it since I have 2 EMODs here and one is not being used. Was thinking of doing a 727 build but I have no 20 inch ARs and would love to get another sold my last to fund my ex wife’s middy…lets just say money wasted.
You can search for threads about BCM and Bushmaster, or you could buy a 20" and have it profiled to your design. Maybe check with WOA or ADCO. Of course long range precision will be at odds with your lightweight…
If you want lighter weight and precision I’d look for something stainless in 18" that’s fluted or dimpled. The shorter length and fluting or dimpling should reduce weight and stiffen the barrel over a traditional or light profiled 20".
I know lightweight and precision is not the same. I am really looking for something that can be used for varmits or small game mainly. I will look at the 18 inch barrels. I was sent a PM about 16 inch stainless steal barrels so I might look at that.
If you’re looking for a 20" pencil barrel you may have to find something in the twist rate you’re looking for and have it turned down. I had a 16" full HBAR profile turned down to an A1 profile except for under the FSB. As to accuracy, the Army has found that a stock M4, (not M4A1), is good for head shots at 500 meters with Mk262 ammo. Whatever you do, buy a quality barrel. The military has an unlimited supply of rifles and they can afford to cherry pick the most accurate ones for this type of work. If you buy a cheap barrel of unknown quality it may not shoot up to the level of accuracy you’re looking for.
