I’m looking at purchasing an AimPoint Micro T-1 for the optic. My goal is to design a light-weight patrol rifle. Looking for any input…mainly something to sweeten the trigger/hammer but stay as stock as possible due to Department policies.
Looks gtg. I personally would do without the ambi selector but that’s a personal thing.
Forgive my ignorance but is there a way around having to wait for the NFA tax stamp with the helpp of your department? If you had to chop it, i’d go 12.5 to avoid having to enlarge the port.
ETA: Since youre running an ASAP, i assume you’ll be using an MS2 as well? I recommend getting an RSA to go with the 2, since youre going to be lugging the weapon around. As for your trigger, just polish it and put a little Grease or dry lube on the sear engagement.
I would not alter the stock USGI FCG in any manner or send it anyone to work on either. Too many instances of people getting dangerous triggers in their gun.
If you want to upgrade FCG’s maybe get an exception to policy or policy alteration that allows FCG’s in use by the military or something. It would be worth a shot to me.
I would also stick to a factory SBR barrel if you plan to replace/alter the 16". Surely you can sell a quality brand barrel with a couple thousand rounds through it…Don’t skimp especially on duty guns.
Looks good so far. I have a ASAP plate and MS2 right now and I feel that there are some better options out there, but that is more preference and its something you can change down the road if you feel necessary.
You can probably do without the CTR, an MOE would work just fine for your application, but if you are dead set on having something that locks in tight go right ahead.
As for the trigger group, if dept policy requires mil-spec trigger components than you are best served doing just that. God forbid you actually need to press it into action you want to know your PD will stand behind you. Just get a LPK from a reputable mfg. and see how it is. There is a lot of variance in mil-spec triggers so maybe get your hands on a few trigger groups and find the one that has the least creep etc. I have BM LPK that I put together a while back and the trigger, although heavy, breaks very clean.
The MBUS’s should be fine as long as they are only a backup to quality optic, like the T-1 you mention. If you are going to run sights while saving for a T-1 than I would definitely invest in some steel sights (Troy, DD, LMT).
If you plan on going with a 11" barrel, I’d advise a 10" rail. I have a DD 10.3" with a DD Lite 10" rail and it’s a bit tight. I can’t get a wrench on the flash hider with the rail installed. Wouldn’t be able to mount a suppressor, not sure if that’s why you’re going with the BCE 2.0. Not the end of the world by any means, just something to consider. 12.5" barrel and you’d be fine.
Otherwise, if you don’t need the QR sling cup, I’d go with a MOE stock instead of the CTR, as they don’t add much except for cost and weight (and the cup).
I’m fixed on the CTR Stock, I’ve had one since they came out…I don’t mind the MOE but love my CTR. As for the barrel length, I’ve been tossing around the idea between the 11" or the 12.5" route, might just go the 11.5" route. My goal is to make this rifle as light & compact as possible for use, hence my decision to go with an Aimpoint Micro & MBUS sights, everything is being considered for weight. As for the trigger I’m planning on going stock or going with a CMC Duty/Patrol Model. As for the department helping me, this is being done because the department doesn’t have a budget for rifles so they allow their officers to carry their own as long as they qualify with it; in return they provide duty ammo.
