I’m looking for ideas for a light mount that places a Surefire 0.80 or 1 inch light with clicky tailcap forward of the front sight and gas block. I have tried a Haley thorntail but it hits the front sight when folded. I am trying to push my light as far out in front of the rail so I can use a clicky tailcap switch while running a VFG as far forward as possible. I know I could spring for an extended rail, but if I can save the money and front end weight I would be happier. Any ideas would be appreciated…
What diameter is the SCAR barrel in front of the GB?
Not sure, I’ll have to check. However, I would rather not have anything bolted directly to the barrel if possible.
Get an extended rail instead as putting stuff on the barrel hurts accuracy. This is what I am running and I shoot with my support arm as extended as I can get.
I’m gonna agree with Alaskapopo on this one how ever I went with the PWS rail extender. In my opinion that is the best rail extention on the market. The top rail on the PWS is lower than the SCAR reciever so you can mount an x300 right on the top without occluding your sight picture at all. The only downside is that its 200 bucks.
Thanks for the replies. I think I’m going to have to just bite the bullet and buy an extended rail. I think overall I’ll be happier with the extra real estate over trying to put something else together.
Also, Alaskapopo, how do you like the TR-24 on your 17 in a LE setting. I work in a remote rural area and am looking for glass for my 17 as well.
It fits the SCAR pretty well. The illumination works in most settings well except when in a dark area looking out to a bright one like say inside a dark room looking outside. Right now I am running a different set up though. (The bi pod is only on when I need it)
What I want is a second Swarovski Z6i for my Scar. Althought this set up works well for my needs.

I replaced my front sight with a Promoted Pawn rail, added a fixed DD front sight to the top rail, and installed a Surefire via an offset mount to the PP rail.

Thanks guys! I like the night force 2.5-10 but the price is the only thing keeping from trying one. Also, Dave M, I like the promoted pawn option as well. I might have to give that a closer look.
Vortex has a 2.5-10 that is a lot more affordable and still a good scope. You may want to consider one.

If you ever plan on SBR’ing your SCAR then it’s an especially viable option.

X300 Ultra on the top rail behind the front sight. I don’t even notice it when I’m actually shooting. Tape switch on the 3 o’clock rail. H
Definitely the way to go, but go with the PWS and not the factory extension. The PWS drops the top rail down so that it sits lower, making actuating it much easier on the SCAR.
Gear Sector offset mount for the surefire mini-scout:
Barely clears the front sling loop.
You can still adjust the front sight windage with it on. Flipping up the front sight isn’t too bad if you stick your thumb in there from the front.
Flipping it down is a little tougher, especially if you have bigger fingers.
But who needs speed when flipping down sights? :jester:

Saw your pics of the 12 o’clock X300 on your SCAR. Great looking set up. I’ve been thinking of doing the same thing… Looking at my SCAR 17 and my X300, and without the SCAR Rail extension - unless I’m missing something obvious, it won’t “just slide on the top rail” due to lack of clearance on either the front or rear sight.
??? So - I’ll be forced to remove the rear sight (or worse the front sight) to slide the X300 onto the top rail? I guess since I’ve got the irons sighted in, scope mounted and sighted in, I’m inclined to consider the Streamlight that screws on vs slides on.

I’d venture to say that you are correct. Although you could remove the rear iron sight (much easier to reinstall that the front), and slide it up that way… still a bitch to do, however.
Alternatively you could remove the barrel, because the front sight / gas block assembly is attached to it, then put the light on, then reinstall the barrel.
